嶺南地域에서 출토된 交流관련 動物遺體(조가비) (The study about interaction through animal remains(Shell) excavated from Yeong-Nam Area)

초록

조가비는 보통 패총이나 폐기장에서 출토하여 당시 사회의 식료사정과 활용을 연구하는데 중요한 자료이지만 최근에는무덤이나 사리함에서 조가비를 이용한 장신구, 장식품으로 만든 자료가 출토되어 동물유체를 통한 교류에 관한 연구가 가능하게 되었다. 교역은 상호보완적인 차원에서 두 개 이상의 체제가 물건이나 이념, 사상 등을 주고받는 교환체계로서 이글에 소개된 5종의 조가비는 원산지가 오끼나와 일대와 일본열도의 태평양연안 일대이므로 한반도 남부지역과 거리가 멀고, 한반도에 서식하지 않는 품목이라는 점에서 희귀성과 가치에서 일단 돋보였을 것이다.
한반도 남부지역의 여러 정치체들이 사용한 조가비의 목적은 종별로 서로 다른데, 이모가이는 장신구, 호신재, 장식품,운주부속재로 사용되었으며, 야광조개는 장식품과 용기로 제작하여 사용되었다. 개오지와 고호우라 역시 장식품이나 장신구로 사용되었으며 긴카하마가이도 장신구로 이용되었다. 이러한 물품은 왕실용품 혹은 지역의 최상위층에서 취급한고급물품으로서 교역에 중요한 품목으로 취급되었으며, 특히 이모가이는 특정집단에서 특정시기에 정치적으로 재분배하는 방식으로 공급된 물품이기도 하였다. 원산지가 외래 지역인 조가비가 한반도에 수입되기 위해서는 오끼나와 일대에서한반도로 정기적으로 올라오는 쿠릴해류를 적극적으로 이용하였을 것이며, 장소는 기원3~4세기는 김해, 5~6세기는 경주와 고령, 6세기 이후에는 경주, 고성, 영산강 및 금강유역일 가능성이 높음을 제언하였다. 그리고 조가비의 교역은 원산지,가공, 수입지역으로 구분된 체제로 운영되었을 가능성이 높으며, 지역적으로는 오끼나와-구주/본주-한반도로 구분되는데,영남지역에서 확인되는 다른 외래유물을 보더라도 조가비의 교역루트는 변함이 없을 것이다.

영어초록

Shells are an important item for researching foodstuffs and application of those societies, usually found in shell middens or waste sites, but recently have been excavated as the shapes of many personal ornaments and accessories made of them in tombs or sarira caskets to be able to study about interaction through animal corporeal things. Interaction is system of exchange for mutual supplementary that more than two systems give and take items, idea, doctrine, and etc.
The five kinds of shells introduced in this thesis first will stand out in rarity and value because the origin place of them are far from the south area of Korean Peninsula which is around Okinawa and pacific coast of Japanese Islands. The purpose of shells used by several political organizations in Korean Peninsula’s south area was quite different, that is to say Imogai was used for personal accessories, self defense, decorations, and subsidiary materials of links, Glow-in-the-dark shell for decorations and bowls, Geogi and Gohura was used as decorations and personal accessories, and Ginkagamagai as personal accessories as well. These items were the high-class ones used in royal family or the highest class, and were dealt as important things in the interaction. Especially, Imogai was also item used as a way of political redistribution in the specific times by the special class.
Considering that though the shells’ original place was foreign, they were imported into Korean Peninsula, the interaction place and way was the curious matter. The assumed priority way would be the progressive use of Kuril Current which had come up regularly from Okinawa to the Korean Peninsula. The exchange place was highly suggested to be Gimhae in the 3rd to 4th century, Gyeongju and Goryeong in the 5th to 6th century, and Gyeongju, Goseong, Geum river as well as Yeongsan river after 6th century.
However, interaction and trade is very difficult part to examine exactly to be archaeological remains.
Therefore, henceforward, to supplement these uncertain parts, if overall review in the way of documentary records and cognitive archaeology is followed, we can study the contents more convincing than reasoning through only relics or the contents near historical truth.
