연행양상을 통한 가래조 고찰 (A Study on the Garaejo through the Play aspect)

초록

가래조는 경기도 남부지역의 무속굿에서 등장하는 장단의 명칭이다. 이 장단은 청배와 노랫가락의 반주에 사용된다. 현재의 굿에서 출현빈도가 높지 않고, 경기도 남부굿의 화려한 장단들에 가려져 실체가 제대로 알려지지 않았던 장단이다.
하지만 가래조는 경기도 남부굿에서 주요한 장단이다. 그 이유는 가래조가 등장하는 굿거리가 굿의 핵심적인 재차이기 때문이다. 가래조는 구성이 323의 혼소박 형태의 6대강으로 고악보의 곡들과 연관이 된다. 연행방식은 무가의 종류에 따라 달라서 그 형태가 다양하다.

이상의 연구들은 장단의 구조와 역할 및 의의 등에 관련된 성과를 거두었으나, 일부의 사례만을 다루고 있어 전체적인 면모를 볼 수 없다는 한계를 지닌다. 이러한 점을 보완하고 연구를 확장, 심화하기 위하여 다음과 같은 방법으로 연구를 진행하고자 한다. 첫째로 가래조와 관련된 가능한 모든 자료를 대상으로 삼는다. 자료가 산만하게 존재하는데, 이들을 집적하고 정리하여 다양한 형태의 연행을 파악한다. 조사보고서에서 가래조의 의미를 찾고, 연행자료 분석을 통하여 양상을 확인한다. 둘째로 고악보, 불가에서의 화청, 동해안굿의 청보와의 관계를 통하여 통시적이고 공시적인 측면에서 다른 곡들과의 상관성을 찾는다. 셋째로 이를 바탕으로 굿에서 가래조가 지니는 의의와 가치를 도출한다.
이 고찰에서 얻어진 소중한 사실은 다음 세 가지로 요약된다.
첫째, 경기도 남부굿의 핵심적인 위치를 점하고 있다는 점이다. 가래조가 반주되는 굿거리는 제석, 군웅, 조상이다. 이 굿거리들은 굿에서 성대하게 모셔지는데, 굿을 의뢰하는 사람들이 중요하게 인식하는 자손, 마을의 안녕, 조상님과 관련된 신이 주신이 된다.
둘째, 연행방식이 다양하다는 점이다. 가래조는 청배와 노랫가락이라는 두 가지의 무가에서 기능을 하는데, 장단의 속도와 구송의 방식 및 반주와 창의 결합 측면에서 서로 다르게 나타난다. 이러한 점에서 가래조의 연행방식은 이외의 장단에서는 찾을 수 없는 독자성을 지닌다.
셋째, 가래조는 고악보, 화청, 청보와 상관성을 지닌다는 점이다. 가래조는 경기도 남부굿에서만 홀로 등장하는 장단이 아님이 드러났다. 과거, 현재, 미래의 곡들과 가래조라는 장단을 바탕으로 밀접한 관련을 지니고 있다. 다른 어느 장단 못지않은 깊은 역사성과 광범위한 분포를 갖는 소중한 연행임이 확인된다.
