초록

본 연구는 일양약품(주)의 창업주이며 명예회장인 위제(暐齊) 鄭亨植 박사의 생애와 일양약품(주)의 창업부터 성장·발전과정을 통해 정형식의 경영사상을 고찰하였다. 無에서 有를 창조한 1세대 창업기업가인 정형식의 경영·경제이념의 형성 배경부터 그의 경영사상의 특성을 추출하여 후배 기업가와 기업가 연구자들에게 귀감이 될 시사점을 제시하는 데 목적을 두고 있다.
위제 정형식의 경영사상을 요약하면, 다음과 같다. 첫째, 정형식 명예회장은 근검·절약, 정직과 성실, 신용과 신뢰를 바탕으로 불굴의 도전정신과 개척자 정신을 발휘하여 일양약품을 창업하고, 성공과 실패를 거듭하면서 칠전팔기로 민족기업으로 성장시켰고, 빈곤 추방과 풍요를 창출한 시대적 기업가이며 자수성가형 기업가이다. 둘째, 끊임없는 연구·개발과 창조경영을 수행하여 수많은 명약 개발로 국민건강과 인류복지 증진에 크게 이바지한 제약업 기업가이다.
셋째, 불교와 유교적 가치관을 바탕으로 共存·共生·共榮의 경영철학을 실천에 옮긴 실천적 기업가이며, 넷째, ‘기회포착의 명수’이면서 ‘위기관리의 달인’이며, 기업가정신과 도전정신을 타고난 창업기업가이다. 다섯째, 60∼70년 개발 연대에 창업기업가들이 군웅할거 하던 시기에 배짱경영과 뚝심경영의 대표적 주자로서 한국적 기업풍토 하에 經營史的 측면에서 學際的 硏究가 필요한 기업가이다. 여섯째, 시대에 앞서가는 연구·개발 투자로 신약 개발에 선구자적 역할을 하였으며, 막대한 개발 투자로 제약 연구 인력을 양성하여 마침내 일라플라졸이란 세계 최첨단 신약을 개발하는 데 성공한 창조경영자이고, 일곱째, 1974년 6월 국내 125번째 상장기업으로 공개함으로써 개인 소유 기업에서 국가적·사회적 기업으로 전환하여 자본분산을 이룩한 모범적 경영인이다. 여덟째, 기업 이윤의 사회 환원을 지속적으로 해 옴으로써 기업의 사회적 책임을 솔선수범 수행하는 시혜적 사회공헌 기업가이다. 아홉째, 성공과 실패 속에서 위기 대처능력을 함양하면서 지속적인 선진국의 업계시찰 및 세미나 참여와 고려대 경영대학원에서의 만학을 통해 현대적 경영이론과 기법을 접하면서 경영사상이 변하여 정도경영, 투명경영, 비전경영, 창조경영, 요소경영, 윤리경영과 사회적 책임경영을 실천하고, 미래지향적 가치관과 경영철학을 실천한 선각자적 경영자이며, 일양을 민족 제약기업으로 키운 성공기업가이다. 열째, 위제는 일제 강점기부터 한국 현대사의 정치적·경제적·사회적 혼란기마다 험난한 역사의 현장에서 힘겨운 도전을 감행하여 60∼80년대 경제개발시대에는 제약산업을 통한 국가경제 발전의 선도적 역할을 수행했고, 80∼90년대에는 한국의약품수출입협회 회장으로 제약산업의 선진화와 국제화의 기틀 조성과 한국 의약품의 해외수출을 위한 기반 조성 및 해외시장 개척을 솔선수범함으로써 도전적이고 개척자적 정신을 발휘한 선도적 기업가이다. 열한째, 위제 정형식 명예회장은 마샬이 말하는 불가능을 가능케 한, 無에서 有를 창조하는 개척자적 기업가이며, 슘페터가 지적한 혁신적 기업가로 한국적 경영을 중시한 기업가이며, 카리스마적 리더십의 소유자로서 개발연대 한국기업을 선도한 지도자적 기업가이다. 끝으로, “경제적으로 안정되어야 심리적 안정을 이룰 수 있고, 경제적으로 안정하지 못하면 마음이 불안하다.”는 맹자의 유교 윤리가 정형식의 경영사상의 기본이라고 결론을 맺는다.

영어초록

This article studied on the management thoughts of Dr. Jung, Hyung-Sik, an inauguration founder of Ilyang Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd.. His management thought and ideology has been formed from all his diligent and sincere, truthful life that had gotten from extreme poor experiences through his youth days in the Japanese colonial period, and Confucianism and Buddhism idea. This life style and that management thought and ideology realized the establishment of Ilyang Co., and produced good results as growth and development of Ilyang Co.. This study focused on management and economic thoughts of Dr. Jung, Huyng-Sik being alive as an enterpriser of the first generation enterprise inaugurators, and aimed on the purpose that his special and unique management thought and ideology will be not only praised and afford as a good example model of coming generation but give many suggestions as mirror to junior enterprisers and researchers on entrepreneurs. To summing up the management thoughts of Dr. Jung, it is as follows.
First, Dr. Chung, chairman of Ilyang is an enterpriser that made a fortune of his own and succeed in life. He inaugurated Ilyang Pharmaceutical Co. founded on an indomitable challenge and pioneer spirit in accompany with his frugality, honesty, sincerity, credit, confidence, and then brought up Ilyang as national enterprise by an indomitable spirit after repeated success and failure. Also he is a self establishment type enterpriser of a period that banished poverty and created richness, and made a name for himself. Second, he is an enterpriser of pharmaceutical industry that carried out the ceaseless R&D and creative management, consequently contributed much to the national health and the promotion of welfare of man according as development of numerous famous drug. Third, he is a practical enterpriser that practiced the management philosophy as coexistence, mutual prosperity, living together based on a sense of values from Confucianism and Buddhism. Fourth, he is an enterpriser as expert picking up an opportunity and master of managing crisis, and also he is a born inauguration enterpriser with entrepreneurship and challenge spirit. Fifth, he is a representative enterpriser of boldness management and mighty mind management in Korean development period of 1960∼70, therefore he is an enterpriser that needs the interdisciplinary studies in management historical side under the natural features of Korea. Sixth, Dr. Jung is a creative manager that took lead in pioneer role on development of new remedy, and so he is investing an enormous sum of money in side of developing of new remedy and training of pharmaceutical research men, consequently achieved success in development of high-tech new remedy in the world as like "Ilaplazol". Seventh, he is a model manager that realized the capital divergence between ownership and management as listing on the Korea Stock Exchange in June 1974, according to going public Ilyang. Eighth, he is an enterpriser performing the social contribution that he is practicing continuously to return company's profit to society, so taking the lead on his own initiative the accomplishment on social responsibility of firm. Ninth, he is an enterpriser of pioneer that he could build up the management ability coping with crises according as having a wide experience as like success and failure, and could change the management thought as justice management, transparency management, vision management, creative management, factor management, business ethics management, social responsibility management according as learning modern management theories and methods through learning late in life in Business Graduate School Course of Korea University, and practiced the future-oriented value mind and management philosophy. Finally, he is a successful enterpriser having the foresight that achieved success Ilyang Co. as national pharmaceutical enterprise. Tenth, Dr. Jung took decisive action beyond his ability in rough and difficult fields of history from occupation period of Japanese to every modern confusion times of political, economic, social accidents of Korea. He is pathfinding pioneer enterpriser that carried out the leading roles in development of pharmaceutical industry for development of national economy in Korean economy development period of 1960~80, and laid the ground work as pioneer and pathfinding leader in being advanced and internationalization of pharmaceutical industry and pioneering overseas market, and preceded lead the way in period of 1980~90. Eleventh, Dr. Jung is a pioneer manager that "make possible what seems to be impossible" as Marshal had said, and also he is an innovative enterpriser that "create anything out of nothing" as Schumpeter had said. He is an enterpriser with charisma leadership that bore the important weight on Korean management type, and a leader leading Korean enterprises in development period of Korea. Twelfth, in the end, we would conclude that Dr. Chung's management thought is Confucianism ethics that "as economic security of living must stabilize, so make mental stable state, if it is not in economic stability mind, it causes man uneasiness."
