유아 사회정서지원 과정에서 유아교사가 경험하는 보람과 어려움 (The Rewards and Difficulties Experienced by Early Childhood Teachers in the Process of Supporting Young Children Social Emotions)

초록

목적 본 연구에서는 유아 사회정서지원과정에서 유아교사가 경험하는 보람과 어려움을 탐색함으로써 시사점을 도출하고자 하였다.
방법 이를 위하여 서울, 경기, 인천 지역에 소재한 유아교육기관에서 만 3~5세 유아반 담임을 맡고 있는 유아 교사 17명을 대상으로각각 2회씩의 심층면담을 실시하여 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 자료 분석을 통해 도출된 연구 결과는 연구참여자 내부검증과 연구자 간의 논의 및 유아교육 전문가 2인의 자문의 과정을 거쳤다.
결과 유아 사회정서지원과정에서 유아교사가 경험하는 보람은 유아 스스로 감정을 조절하고 사회관계를 형성할 때, 유아가 상황에적합한 정서를 표현하고 사회적 기술을 사용할 때, 가정에서의 변화 및 실천이 있을 때인 것으로 나타났다. 이와 함께 유아 사회정서지원과정에서 유아교사가 경험하는 어려움은 유아의 발달적 개인차로 인한 어려움, 사회정서발달을 지원하는 상호작용의 방법적인어려움, 사회정서발달을 지원하기 위한 시간 확보 및 인력 부족으로 인한 어려움, 지원 방법에 대한 학부모의 이해 및 협조 부족으로인한 어려움으로 나타났다.
결론 본 연구를 통해 유아교사들이 유아의 사회정서발달을 지원함에 있어 다양한 측면에서 보람과 어려움을 경험하고 있음을 살펴볼 수 있다. 이에 유아교사의 사회정서교수역량을 향상할 수 있는 연수 및 프로그램을 개발하여 제공할 필요가 있다. 또한 유아의사회정서발달과 관련한 사례별 지원 방안을 모색함으로써 유아교사에게 보다 실제적인 지원이 제공될 필요가 있다. 이와 함께 유아의 개별 수준에 적합한 지원이 이루어질 수 있도록 유아의 사회정서발달 수준을 이해할 수 있는 준거 및 지표 개발을 모색할 필요가있다. 더불어 가정연계프로그램을 통해 가정과 기관이 함께 유아의 사회정서발달을 지원할 수 있는 방안이 마련될 필요가 있다.

영어초록

Objectives This study attempted to draw implications by exploring the rewards and difficulties experienced by early childhood teachers in supporting young children’s social emotional development.
Methods Data were collected by conducting two in-depth interviews with 17 teachers of 3 to 5-year-olds at early childhood education institutions located in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon and analyzed using qualitative research methods. The research findings derived through data analysis underwent internal validation by the study partic ipants, discussions among researchers, and consultations with two early childhood education experts.
Results The results show that, in supporting young children social emotional development, the teachers feel re warding when the children control their emotions and build social relationships by themselves, appropriately ex press emotions and use social skills for situations, and also when there are progress and practices at home. In ad dition, the teachers experience difficulties in supporting children’s social emotional development due to devel opmental differences among the children, challenges in using interaction methods to support social emotional de velopment, lack of time and manpower, and parents’ insufficient understanding and cooperation with supporting methods.
Conclusions Through this study, it is found that the early childhood teachers experience rewards and difficulties in supporting young children’s social emotional development in various aspects. It is necessary to develop and provide professional developmental training and programs that can improve social emotional teaching capabilities of early childhood teachers. More practical support needs to be provided to early childhood teachers by seeking case-by-case support plans related to young children's social emotional development. Also, it is necessary to de velop criteria and indicators to understand young children’s social and emotional developmental levels, so that ap propriate supports for each child’s developmental level can be provided. In addition, it is essential to prepare plans for both of families and institutions to support young children's social emotional development together through family-linked programs.
