초록

문자는 인류문명이 발전하면서 생성된 정보를 효과적으로 전달하고 저장하기 위한 실용적 필요성에서 생겨났다. 인류의 발전과 함께 고대인들은 그림이나 기호로서 그들의 존재를 기록하였고, 현재에 와서 우리들은 그것을 문자로 사용하면서 그들이 살아온 자취를 돌아 볼 수 있게 된다. 따라서 문자라는 것은 인류의 문화, 예술, 생활, 생각이 고스란히 담겨져 당시의 역사를 반영하는 거울이기도 하다. 그리고 인류의 언어를 기억하고 저장시킬 수 있는 도구로서의 기능만 아니라, 인간만이 가지고 있는 사고와 감정의 표현수단이기도 하다.
고대인들은 당시 생활의 전반적인 모습을 사물의 형태나 특징들로 형상화한 상형문자를 시작으로 긴 세월동안 다양한 서체로 발전시켜왔다. 결국 이러한 언어와 문자는 인류문화를 지속하고 계승시켜 주는 요인이 되었으며, 또한 민족의 특성을 형성하는 중요한 요소로서 문명사회의 조성에 큰 기여를 하고 있다. 이러한 문자는 글자 하나하나의 서체에서 조형적 조화와 어울림을 구사하여 예술적 아름다움으로 표현하려는 미적 갈망으로 인하여 서체는 매우 다양한 변천과 발전을 거듭해 왔다. 이러한 의미로 볼 때, 전서체는 다른 세계의 여러 문자와 같이 도화(圖畵)로부터 시작되어 상형문자로 발전되어 표의문자로 이어온 특수한 문자로 한자 서체 중에서도 조형미가 가장 뛰어난 감각적인 서체로 잘 알려져 있다. 따라서 전서체는 유구한 시대적 유행의 흐름 속에서도 독특한 미적 조형미에 매료되어 비석이나 전각, 또는 인장 등에 널리 사용되면서 오늘날까지 전해져오고 있다.
본 연구에서는 전서체의 이론적 배경에 대해 알아보고 이의 미적 조형성을 활용함은 물론, 현대인들이 살아가는데 교훈으로 삼거나 올바른 삶의 가치관을 형성하는데 유익한 사자성어(四字成語)를 넥타이용 패턴으로 디자인하고, 이중 대표적인 것을 시제품으로 제작해보았다. 이는 이미 최적화된 디자인의 전서체에 대한 조형성을 이용할 뿐만 아니라 중국 고전에서 발생된 사자성어를 소재로 활용함으로써 교훈적 의미를 담은 넥타이 상품이 소비자들로 하여금 특성화된 섬유제품 개발에 대한 차별화된 넥타이 디자인 개발의 시도로 이해되길 기대한다.

영어초록

With the improved quality of life, product designs have been developed into elements like beauty, individuality, material, and functionality, suitable for diverse demands. Ceramic product designs also have been developed by showing many changes in accordance with the time flow. The development of new materials by advanced industrial society and development of scientific technology is suggesting diverse application methods in the living product design area using clay.
However, in case of ceramic products using the existing clay, there were limitations of manual work such as increased hours for production going through the process of forming, drying, and plasticity, and difficulty to have elaborate expressions due to the inherent nature of clay.
Letters had been generated from the practical needs effectively to deliver and store the information developed as the civilization of mankind progressed. The ancients recorded their existences with pictures or symbols upon their advancement and we use them as letters looking back their traces.
Therefore, the letter can be a mirror to reflect the history including culture, art, life style, and ideas of the mankind. Also, it is the tool not only to function of memory and storage of the languages but also to express the ideas and feeling of men. The ancients had developed a variety of script styles for a long time from hieroglyphics which formulated their living styles into the forms of things or characteristics. Finally, these languages and letters became the elements to continue and succeed the mankind culture, and also contributed to organize the civilized society as the critical factors to establish the characteristics of the nation. Script styles had been changed and developed repeatedly due to aesthetical desire to express them as the artistic beauty demonstrating the molding harmony and concord in individual letters. In this regard, seal script, which was a special letter as did with multiple letters in other worlds, initiated from the drawing, developed as hieroglyphics, and succeeded to ideograph, had been known as the most sensational script style with outstanding beauty among the Chinese script styles. Hence, seal script has been handed down by today to be widely used in tombstones, ems, or stamps attracted by the unique beauty in the everlasting trend. In these days when the civilization has been highly developed, the functions of letters are defined as the pure information delivery and the subjects of artistic expressions. Especially, the history of seal script has been continued as the subject of artistic expressions revitalizing it as the upgraded letter to aesthetic formativeness by art of seal engraving such as tombstones or stamps although its function as the communication tool was weak.
In this study, the theoretical background of seal script was investigated not only to utilize its aesthetic formativeness but also to design it as the pattern for necktie with a lesson for the modern people or four-character idiom beneficial for the development of right personal value, producing pilot products out of these. It is anticipated for the consumers to be accepted as the trial of differentiated necktie design development on the progress of specialized textile goods by the neckties containing the educational meaning upon utilizing four-character idiom from the Chinese classical literatures as well as using formativeness of seal script with optimized design.
