국제 디자인 공모전 제품디자인분야 대학생 수상작품 분석 -2019년 세계 3대 디자인 공모전을 중심으로- (Analysis on the Award-winning Works of University Students in Product Design at the International Design Competition -focused on the world's three major design competition in 2019-)

최근 들어 디자인 분야에서 독일의Red Dot, iF 공모전과 미국의 IDEA 공모전은 세계 3대 디자인 공모전이라고 불릴 만큼 그 권위와 명성이 높아지고 있다. 이러한 공모전 수상을 통해서 이윤을 극대화하려는 기업이나 취업과 스펙 향상을 위한 학생들을 통해서 많은 디자인 작품의 출품이 이어지고 있는 현실이다. 하지만 공모전 출품을 준비하는 대학생들에게는 홈페이지를 통한 기존 수상작품에 대한기초정보 이외 각 공모전들이 가진 특성을 파악할 수 있는 객관적인 자료나 공모전을 비교 분석한 연구 자료를 확보하기는 어려운 것이 현실이다. 때문에 본 연구에서는 3개 국제 디자인 공모전의 기초자료와 2019년 제품디자인분야 학생 수상작품(총 65개 작품)에 대한 분석을 토대로 디자인 공모전 준비에 도움을 줄 수 있는 객관적인 자료의 토대를 만들고자 했다. 전체 수상작품은 ‘신기술, 로우테크, 노약자, 사회문제, 환경친화’와 연관된 총 5개의 메인 주제와 ‘생활, 의료, 교육, 소통, 작업, 운송, 안전, 체육, 환경’의 보조주제로 구분된 분석표를 활용하여 살펴보았다. 분석의 결과, 수상작품의 35%이상이 신기술을 이용한 생활과 의료분야의 문제점 해결에 집중한 디자인 작품이었으며 그 중에서도 iF 공모전이 제일 심한 것을 확인했다. 또한 Red Dot 공모전이 ‘친환경’, iF와 IDEA 공모전은 ‘혁신적’이란 심사기준이 가장 높은 평가점수로 확인되었으며, 이를 통해 각 공모전마다 수상작품의 성향이나 특징에 대한 차이에 대해서 미약하게나마 확인할 수 있었던 의미가 있었다. 추후에는 연도를 거듭한 장기적 데이터 확보를 위해서 2019년 한해에 국한하지 않고 매년 각 공모전별의 수상작품에 대한 데이터를 비교 분석하기 위한 후속연구가 필요할 것이라고 판단된다.

영어초록

Recently, Germany's Red Dot and iF competition and the U.S. IDEA competition have been called one of the world's top three design competition, raising its authority and reputation in the in the field of design. Many design works are being submitted through companies seeking to maximize profits through winning contests and students seeking employment and improving specifications.
However, it is difficult for college students who are preparing to participate in the competition to obtain objective data that can identify the characteristics of each competition or research data that compares and analyzes the competition, other than basic information on existing award-winning works through the website. Therefore, based on the analysis of the basic data of the three international design competition and the 2019 student-winning works in the product design field (a total of 65 works), the research aims to lay the foundation for objective data that can help prepare for the design competition. The entire award-winning work was reviewed using a total of five main themes related to "new technology, low-tech, the weak and elderly, social problems, and environment-friendly" and an analysis table divided into auxiliary topics for "life, medical care, education, communication, work, transportation, safety, physical education and environment." According to the analysis, more than 35 percent of the award-winning works focused on solving problems in the living and medical sectors using new technologies, and among them, the iF contest was the most severe. In addition, the Red Dot competition was confirmed as the highest evaluation score for 'environment-friendly' and iF and IDEA competition was 'innovative'. Through this, it was meaningful that the differences in the propensity and characteristics of the winning works were slightly confirmed in each competition. In the future, it is believed that in order to secure long-term data over the years, follow-up research will be needed to compare and analyze data on the winning works of each competition every year, not just in 2019.
