초등학교 체육전담교사제의 학교운영 사례 연구 (A Case Study on School Management of Physical Education Specialists in Elementary Schools)

초록

이 연구는 초등학교 체육전담교사들의 역할과 위상, 수업 운영 중 겪는 경험을 분석함으로써, 체육교과전담제가 학교 현장에서 어떻게 운영되고 있는지에 대한 총체적인 시각을 갖고, 초등 체육수업의 질 향상이라는본래 취지에 맞게 제도가 운영되는데 참고할만한 기초자료를 제공하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해 A광역시의한 초등학교를 대상으로 심층면담과 참여관찰 중심의질적 사례연구를 수행하였다. 연구결과, 체육전담교사의학교 내 역할과 위상으로 ‘주변인들이 모이는 교담실’, ‘담임교사 부재 시 학급 운영의 틈 메우기’, ‘학교 행사의 부수적인 업무 돕기’, ‘성과와 재정적 지원에 소외되기’, ‘정해진 규칙 없이 학교행사와 담임 요구에 대응하기’의 특성이 나타났다. 또한 수업운영 시 체육전담교사들은 학생들의 반응과 수업환경, 고학년 여학생과 특수아 지도에서 어려움을 느끼지만, 수업전문성 신장에 대해서는 만족감을 느끼고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한연구결과를 바탕으로 교과전담제 운영에 관한 학교 내합리적인 규정 제정, 체육교과지도의 전문성을 고려한배정, 효과적인 수업 운영을 위한 물리적인 환경 조성을 위한 노력, 교육대학에서부터 체육전담교사를 확보할수 있는 방안 마련, 체육전담교사로 배정된 교사들을대상으로 특성화된 연수운영 등을 제언하였다.

영어초록

Focusing on the general understanding that Physical Education (P.E.) is a subject taught by physical education specialists, the purpose of this study was to identify the various roles, challenges, and potential implications for how physical education specialists could enhance both the quality of physical education and the overall educational environment within the established system. In order to achieve this research goal, this study conducted in-depth interviews and a participant observation-centered qualitative case research focusing on an elementary school located in Metropolitan City “A”. In terms of the roles and status physical education specialists assume the findings of the research identified the following: socializing with colleagues in the staff room, supervising class management in the absence of a homeroom teacher, assisting with extra-curricular work related to school functions, being omitted from performance and financial support, and participating in various school functions including responding to homeroom teachers’ requests without fixed rules. In addition, this study confirmed that although when it came to class operations the physical education specialists had a difficult hard time with students’ reactions, class environment, how to instruct female students in the upper grades and specially-challenged students, they felt satisfied with overall improvement as a teaching professional. In the light of these findings, this study presented the following suggestions which could be reasonably enacted within the existing school regulations: assigning roles and responsibilities which consider the physical education specialists teaching profession, creating physical environments in pursuit of effective class management, submitting a list potential expected roles physical education specialists could assume to the colleges of education which would help prepare and train physical education specialists professionally.
