스키마를 활용한 문장제 문제해결 프로그램 개발 (Development of an instructional program for word problems utilizing schemas)

초록

문장제 문제는 수학교과가 가진 비효용성에 대한 신화를 제거하기 위하여 실생활과 접목시킨 생활문을 활용한 문장으로 이루어진 문제이다. 문장제 문제는 실제성(authenticity)을 통해 수학과 현실세계와의 접목을 꾀하고, 언어적 표현을 자주 접함으로써 언어 이해력 향상에 긍정적인 영향을 줄 수 있다. 문장제 문제 해결을 위해서는 문제 해결에 필요한 다양한 수학적 개념 속에서 필요한 개념을 언어적 표상을 통해 찾아내어 분석하고 그로부터 가장 적합한 해결책을 찾아내는 통합적 과정을 거쳐야 하는데, 이 두 과정을 관리하는 능력은 영재아들이 문제풀이를 하는 과정에서 필수적이다. 그러한 의미에서 문장제 문제는 언어능력이 발달하기 시작하는 아동초기 영재학습에 기여할 수 있는 수학의 영역이다. 본 연구는 Marshall(1995)이 문장제 문제 이해와 구성 단계 사이에 발생하는 구상과 표상에 대한 어려움을 해결할 수 있도록 돕는 5개의 스키마를 활용할 것을 제안하였다. 본 연구는 Marshall(1995)의 스키마 전략이 문장제 문제 해결에 얼마나 효율적이고 긍정적으로 기여할 수 있는가를 보고자하였고 그러한 이론적 입장에 근거하여 7차시에 걸친 영재 교육프로그램을 개발하였다. 프로그램 효과를 알아보기 위하여 세 명의 초등학교 4학년 학생들을 대상으로 질적인 자료를 수집하였는데, 부모, 학생과의 인터뷰와 설문지, 그리고 수업 과정을 기록한 자료 분석을 이용하였다. 분석결과 전체적으로 학생들의 문제표상능력이 신장되었으며 수업에 대한 흥미를 보고하였다. 그리고 추후 연구를 위한 제언이 논의되었다.

영어초록

The word problems in mathematics incorporates the real life contexts(authenticity), which may offer great deal of interests and motivation for studying mathematics. The authenticity provided by word problems is important because it improves not only the connection between mathematics and the actual world students living in, but can give positive influence on improving students' language understanding ability accompany with problem analysis capability. A great deal of studies have conducted on the effects of word problems on achievement and how to solve the issues to deal with the difficulties students face in solving them. Since the challenging nature of these word problem, the area of gifted children can get significant benefits from solving these kinds of problems. However, major issues in educating word problems are related with problem representation. Younger gifted children who begins to be developing their linguistic ability and face these problems for the first time in their life need to receive instructional supports. Researchers include Marshall (1995) provided instructional supports and solutions to this issue of difficulties in problem representation utilizing schematic structure. The purpose of this study was to developing a program for helping understanding word problem based on Marshall(1995) schema strategies. The program developed in this study include seven sessions with three evaluations; (a) pre, (b) formative, (c) summative evaluation. Three volunteered 4th grade students were participated in this study. Qualitative data analysis were conducted for these three students. The result showed students' improvements of problem solving ability, excitement and interests learning schemas for word problems. However, for the generalizing the effects of this program to the large population, quantitative data analysis needs to be conducted in the future.
