초록

이 글의 목적은 성도의 윤리와 실천을 본격적으로 권면하기 전에 위치한 로마서 7-11장으로 범위를 한정하여, 바울이 자신의 기록 목적을 위해서 신명기를 어떤 방식과 목적으로 인용하는가를 연구한다. 이를 위해 로마서 7-11장에서 신명기를 인용하는 4구절(7:7; 10:6-9; 10:19; 11:8)을 주해하면서, 바울의 구약 인용의 특징을 찾는다. 바울이 로마서 7-11장에서 신명기를 인용하는 방식을 연구할 때, 먼저 신명기와 로마서의 의미 상 차이를 발생시키는 적합한 이유를 문법-역사적 해석과 구속사의 발전을 파악하면서 이해하는 것이 중요하다. 왜냐하면 문법-역사적 해석으로 신명기와 로마서의 원래 의미를 파악한 후에, 구속사적 해석으로 확대나 상승과 같은 계시의 발전을 제대로 이해할 수 있기 때문이다. 따라서 본 연구는 바울이 로마서 7-11장에서 인용한 신명기 본문 자체의 의미를 문법-역사적으로 살핀 후, 그것을 인용한 로마서 본문 자체의 의미를 역시 문법-역사적 및 구원계시의 발전을 따라 연구한다. 본 연구에서 바울이 신명기를 인용할 때, 구약 율법(십계명)의 신약적 유용성, 율법으로부터 말씀이신 예수님의 성육신과 부활과 이신칭의의 복음으로 이어지는 구원계시의 발전, 그리고 아브라함의 언약과 우주적 구원의 예언이 성취되는 구속사의 전진을 구약 예언과 구원을 성취하신 예수 그리스도의 관점으로부터 해석하여 강조함을 논증한다.

영어초록

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the method and goal of Paul’s use of the book of Deuteronomy in the Epistle to the Romans in chapters 7-11 which are located before the full blown ethical and practical exhortation section. For the writers of the New Testament including the apostle Paul, Deuteronomy is one of the most favorite texts in the Old Testament for their arguments. The space limitation does not allow for the present researcher to thoroughly probe Paul’s use of Deuteronomy in the whole chapters of Romans. Instead, this paper tries to elucidate Paul’s quotation of Deuteronomy in Romans 7-11 through the examination of the Epistle in 7:7, 10:6-9, 10:19, and 11:8 by using the grammatical historical and redemptive historical methods of interpretation. The reason to apply the grammatical historical interpretation for this paper is that the original meanings of Deuteronomy and Romans can be properly figured out by this method. Moreover, redemptive-historical interpretation is used because it is a proper method to find out the revelation historical development from Deuteronomy to Romans.
The apostle Paul sometimes changes the quoted OT passages for his purpose. These changes can be explained by the new context of Paul’s readers which is different from that of the Old Testament. The paper reasons the following facts: (1) Paul’s quotations of Deuteronomy in these four texts in the Epistle to the Romans serve to emphasize the relevance of the Decalogue to the covenantal people of God in the New Testament period; (2) the development from Mosaic law to the incarnated Word is shown through Jesus’ resurrection and the justification by faith, (3) the fulfillment of Abrahamic covenant and world-wide salvation in the Old Testament is done by Jesus Christ. Paul who was sensitive to Old Testament intertextuality found these facts because of his Christotelic or messianic and retrospective interpretation of the quoted Deuteronomy. The method of Christotelic is different from Christological or Christ-centered interpretation in that the former examines the Old Testament from the perspective of the incarnation and resurrection of Christ. However, the starting point of the latter is the Old Testament text from which the exegetes try to dig into the Christological meaning.
