근세 한일관계 (Korea-Japan Relations in the Early Modern Period)

초록

본 논문은 2007년 검정을 통과한 6종의 일본 고등학교 교과서(일본사B)를 그 이전의 교과서와 비교하면서 근세 한일관계 기술 내용에 대한 특징을 살펴본 것이다.
검토결과는 다음과 같이 정리할 수 있다.
2007년 고등학교 교과서(일본사B)는 어느 교과서를 막론하고 통신사 문제를 비롯한 에도시대 한일관계에 대한 기술이 단원편제상 대부분 에도시대 초기에 집중되어 있었으며, 「근린제국과의 復交」, 「朝鮮·琉球(류큐)와의 외교와 蝦夷地(에조치)」, 「鎖國의 완성과 4개의 窓口」와 같은 소단원에서 다루어지고 있었다.
단원편제상 2007년 고등학교 교과서(일본사B)의 한일관계 기술은 1990년대 교과서와 별 차이가 없었지만 기술 내용이 현저하게 소략해졌으며, 내용면에서도 외교·무역·문화교류·상호인식·국제 감각 등 다양한 측면에서 다양한 항목으로 기술되던 것들이 외교와 무역의 두 가지 측면으로 축소 기술되어 있었다.
한편 에도막부의 대외관계라는 측면에서 볼 때는 朝鮮 관련 기술이 琉球(류큐) 및 蝦夷地(에조치)와 대등하게 배열되어 있거나, 琉球(류큐)·蝦夷地(에조치) 관련 기술이 대폭 증가되어 있었다.
이러한 변화는 교과서 집필자들이 쇄국정책 하에서 4개의 창구론을 바탕으로 에도시대 대외관계를 기술하도록 하는 일본 文部省의 『高等學校學習指導要領解說』(地理歷史編, 1999)을 반영한 결과였다.

영어초록

This study compares the features of the contents on Korea-Japan relations in the early modern period in the six Japanese history textbooks approved for use by high school students by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in 2007 with those of previously published government-approved textbooks.
The results of the study are as follows. All of the textbooks feature contents on bilateral relations in the Edo Period, including Chosŏn’s dispatch of T’ongsinsa (Korean embassies to Japan), mostly in the early Edo Period, as required by their format (that is, the textbooks are composed of units). These contents are stated in small units under the following titles: “The restoration of diplomatic relations with neighboring countries,” “Diplomatic relations between Korea and Ryukyu and Ezochi (the land of the Ezo or Ainu),” and “The completion of the policy of closing the country’s doors and the four channels of contact with the outside world.”
It appears that the contents on Korea-Japan relations in the early modern period in the textbooks approved by MEXT in 2007 are little different from those in textbooks used in the 1990s, although the coverage of the relevant contents has been conspicuously reduced. Compared to those used in the 1990s, which contained relevant statements on various matters, such as diplomacy, trade, cultural exchanges, mutual recognition,and international perspectives, the newly published textbooks make such statements only on two matters, diplomacy and trade. Concerning the contents on Korea (Chosŏn) during the Edo Period, the new textbooks place them equally with those on Ryukyu and Ezo, with some containing many more statements on Ryukyu and Ezochi than earlier textbooks.
Such a change is the result of the textbook compilers’ compliance with the MEXT’s Guidelines for Teaching High School Students (concerning geography and history, 1999), which instructed them to make statements on the country’s foreign relations in the Edo Period with the focus on the practice of designating four areas as the channels of contact with the outside world under the closed door policy.
