초록

In today’s global markets, customers want to buy better quality products at lower prices, regardless of where they are produced. Due to the intensive competition in the global markets, location decision is regarded as an important factor of global manufacturing strategy. Most global firms’ location decision is a critical element and is influenced by political conditions, exchange rate, cultural differences and trade regulations. For a long time, the plant location issues and mathematical models have been shown in literatures in the field of Operations Research and Management Science, which are not properly introduced to researchers in general management even though it is an important issue. It is because that plant location models are concerned with engineering or scientific problems with the logical methods of deciding the location of plant facilities. Also there have been many studies on qualitative approach including empirical research in the field of plant location. These traditional approaches coupled with global strategies are well suited to the international plant location problems. This paper provides a literature review of the various models of the major international plant location problems. The review is classified into two categories: qualitative and quantitative. This study also reveals that there are still several potential areas worthy of further research.
