칼 융(Carl G. Jung)의 심리 기능에 대한 진화심리학적 관점의 해석 (The Interpretation of Carl Jung’s Psychological Functions from The Evolutionary Psychological Perspective)

초록

본 연구는 칼 융이 제시한 네 가지 심리 기능(감각적 인식, 직관적 인식, 사고적 판단, 감정적 판단)의 궁극적 근원에 대한 의문에서 시작되었다. 이 같은 의문에 대한 해답을 찾기 위한 분석의 틀로 진화심리학을 채택하였으며, 일차적으로 심리 기능이란‘자연선택에 의해 설계된 진화한 심리기제이다’라는 진화심리학적 가정을 수용하였다. 그런 다음 진화심리학의 시각으로 다음과 같은 몇 가지 구체적인 연구 내용에 대한 답을 추구하였다: 첫째, 4기능을 진화적 관점으로 해석하는 것이 가능할 것인지를 탐색하기 위하여 4기능의 본성적 특징에 내포되어 있는 진화론적 입장을 찾는다. 둘째, 마음에 관한 진화심리학의 주요 관점과 원리, 핵심개념인 진화한 심리기제의 속성 등을 개괄한다. 셋째, 4가지 심리 기능을 진화심리학의 관점과 연구방법에 따라 해석을 시도한다. 이는 다시 하위 연구 내용으로 세분화되었다. 1) 4기능에 대한 관점과 진화심리학의 마음에 대한 관점 간의 교점을 탐색한다. 2) 4기능이‘진화한 심리기제’가 갖는 속성을 공유하고 있는지 분석한다. 3) 역설계 및 사고 실험을 통하여 4기능이 적응·생존을 위한 심리기제임을 경험적으로 검증한다. 4) 인식 및 판단 기능이 왜 이분법적 방식으로 개인차를 지니는 형태로 진화하였는지 그 이유를 찾아본다. 이상의 연구 내용은 문헌 고찰과 분석 그리고 사고 실험을 통해 답변을 시도하였다. 끝으로 논의를 통하여 연구 내용에 따른 결과들이 갖는 의미를 탐색하였으며, 연구의 한계와 후속 연구의 방향 그리고 시사점을 차례로 진술하였다.

영어초록

This study began with questions about the ultimate causes of the four psychological functions(sensory perception, intuitive perception, thinking judgment, and emotional judgment) suggested by Carl Jung. To find answers to these questions, I adopted evolutionary psychology as the framework of analysis of four functions. Then, I basically accepted the evolutionary psychological assumption that psychological function is an evolved mind mechanism designed by natural selection. Some research problems to find answers from an evolutionary psychological point of view were as follows: First, to find out whether it is possible to interpret the four functions from an evolutionary point of view, I analyzed the evolutionary color that the attributes of the four functions contain. Second, I outlined the main perspectives and principles of evolutionary psychology about the mind, and the attributes of evolved psychology, which is a core concept. Third, I interpreted four psychological functions according to the perspective and research method of evolutionary psychology. These procedures were subdivided into sub-research content. 1) Common points of view between the four functions and the mind of evolutionary psychology were explored. 2) It was analyzed whether the four functions have the properties of the evolved psychological mechanism. 3) Through reverse-engineering and thinking experiments, it was verified whether the four functions can be said to be psychological mechanisms for adaptation and survival. 4) The reason for why the recognition and judgment functions evolved into a form of individual difference in a dichotomous manner was explored. To answer research problems, I used methods such as literature review, analysis, and thought experiments. Through the discussion, the meaning of the results according to the research questions was examined, and the limitations of the study, the direction of follow-up research, and implications were stated sequentially.
