Hospitality기업의 외국인지분율이 기업가치 및 이익의 질에 미치는 영향 (The Equity Ratio of Foreign Investors Influencing Firm Value and Earnings Quality in Korean Hospitality Companies)

초록

본 연구는 유가증권시장 및 코스닥 시장에 상장된 환대산업의 Hospitality기업을 연구대상으로, 과연 외국인지분율이 기업가치 및 이익에 질에 미치는 영향을 미치는 주요 결정요인인지 알아보고자 하였다. 주요 결과는 다음과같다.
첫째, 외국인지분율이 기업가치 및 이익의 질에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 다중회귀분석을 실시한 결과, 유의한양(+)의 영향을 미치고 있음을 발견하였다. 이는 외국인투자자의 지분취득행위가 증가할수록 기업가치 및 이익의질이 개선되고 있음을 의미하는 결과이다. 둘째, 외국인지분율이 높은 기업들과 낮은 기업들 간의 기업가치 및 이익의 질 평균값 차이검정을 실시한 결과, 외국인지분율이 높은 기업이 낮은 기업들보다 기업가치 및 이익의 질에서큰 평균값을 보고하였으며 그 차이는 통계적으로 유의하였다. 종합적인 분석결과, 외국인투자자는 Hospitality기업의 이익의 질과 기업가치를 결정하는 주요 결정요인임을 밝혀냈다. 본 연구를 통해 얻을 수 있는 의의 및 시사점은다음과 같다.
환대산업의 외국인투자자 지분율이 기업가치 및 이익의 질과 선형의 비례 관계에 있음을 규명한 본 연구결과에기초할 때, 환대기업의 경영진은 기업가치 제고를 위해 다양한 기업투자설명회(IR; Investor Relations)를 개최하여외국인투자자를 유치하는데 노력해야 할 것이다. 또한 불특정 다수의 일반투자자는 외국인지분율이 점진적으로 증가하고 있는 Hospitality기업일수록 이익의 질 및 기업가치가 개선되고 있음을 고려할 때, 이들 기업에 대한 투자의사결정을 적극적으로 고려하거나 수행해야 할 것으로 사료된다.

영어초록

The purpose of this research is to examine whether the foreign investor ownership is the main determinant offirm value and earnings quality of companies in the hospitality industry listed on the KOSPI and the KOSDAQstock market. The financial data and the stock price data were collected through the Electronic Disclosure Systemof the Financial Supervisory Service and KIS-Value. The results are as follows. First, foreign ownership hadstatistically significant positive effects on the corporate value and the earnings quality. Second, the companies withhigh foreign ownership reported greater values in terms of the mean value of the corporate value and the earningsquality than those with low foreign ownership, and the differences were statistically significant. The overall resultsof this research indicate that foreign investors do play a role as an effective external monitoring system whichimproves corporate information environment, and they are major determinant factors influencing the earnings qualityand the firm value of hospitality companies. This research has significant implications in that it is the first researchrelated to the ownership structure of the hospitality industry, and it overcame the limitations of the prior researchthat most of financial and accounting research in the hospitality industry focused on the financial ratio analysis basedon the book value of the financial statements. Based on the results of this research, the management of hospitalitycompanies should hold diverse investor relations(IR) to induce foreign investors, and private investors shouldpositively consider or perform investment decision making in such companies, thus increasing the equity ratio offoreign investors.
