부모가 인식하는 유아의 유튜브 시청 실태 연구 (Investigation into Parents’ Perception of Preschoolers’ Current YouTube Viewing)

초록

본 연구의 목적은 유아의 유튜브 시청 실태와 유튜브 시청에 대한 부모의 인식을 파악하는 것이다. 이를 위해 K지역 만3～만6세 유아 자녀를 둔 어머니를 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 최종 202부를 분석에 사용하였다. 유튜브를 시청하는 유아는 93.1%이었다. 연구결과, 유튜브 시청 실태를 살펴보면, 첫째, 시청 빈도와 관련해 유튜브를 최초 시청한 시기는 36개월 이상이고, 주1～2회 주말 시청이 많고, 평균시청 시간은 20～40분 정도로 정해진 시간 없이 시청하고, 어릴수록 유튜브 시청이 빨라지는 경향을 보였다. 둘째, 시청 환경과 관련해 유아는 어머니를 통해 유튜브를 알게 되고, 혼자 혹은 형제자매와 함께 주로 가정에서 시청하였다. 또 유아가 조용히 있기를 바랄 때 공공시설에서도 유튜브 시청이 많이 이루어졌다. 셋째, 유튜브 내용과 관련해 부모는 콘텐츠 내용을 잘 알고 있고, 유아의 흥미와 재미 때문에 유튜브 시청을 하며, 시청하는 콘텐츠는 다양하였다. 넷째, 시청 관리와 관련해 부모는 시청시간을 중시 여겼고, 시청 규칙은 대체로 지켜지지만 유아가 규칙을 어겼을 때 부모는 시청을 중단하였다. 유튜브 시청에 대한 부모의 인식을 살펴보면, 부모는 학습이나 시대적 흐름 때문에 유아의 유튜브 시청이 필요하다고 생각하지만 유튜브 시청 규칙을 지키도록 교육하고 통제하는 것에 어려움을 겪고 있었다. 이와 같은 결과를 바탕으로 유아의 유튜브 시청에 대한 교육적 시사점과 부모의 지도방안을 제시하였다.

영어초록

The purpose of the study is to understand the current status of preschoolers' YouTube viewing and the parents' perceptions of their children’s YouTube use. To achieve the aims, a questionnaire survey was conducted on mothers with preschool children aged from age 3 to 6 in K city. The total 202 questionnaires were used for analysis, and it turned out that almost all children, 93.1%, in the survey were watching YouTube. The results of data analysis are as follows. First, regarding the frequency of viewing, the age at which children first began watching YouTube was 36 months and above, and their YouTube watching occurred 1~2 times a week mostly on weekends. The average watching hours were from 20~40 minutes without the set time for YouTube. There was a tendency that the youger their age was, the earlier they began watching YouTube. Second, as to YouTube watching environment, the preschoolers became aware of YouTube through their mother, and they usually watched it alone or with siblings at home. The most YouTube watching occurred in public places when mothers wanted their children to stay quiet. Third, regarding the YouTube contents, their parents were well aware of the contents that their children usually watch. The preschoolers watched a variety of contents chosen for fun and their interests. Fourth, about YouTube watching management, The amount of watching time was considered very important by the parents. The watching rules were mostly well followed by their children, but in the case where the kids didn’t, the parents stopped them from watching it. Lastly, the parents’ perception of their children’ YouTube watching was overall positive. However, they were having difficult times teaching and having their children keep the YouTube watching rules at home. Based on the above findings, educational implications as well as guiding principles for parents about preschoolers' Youtube watching are suggested.
