아함과 법화의 내범위(內凡位) 행법체계 연구 : 천태지의의 사교론을 중심으로 (A study of conditioned things system the Higher Level of the Ordinary Stage in Āgama and the Lotus Sūtras : Fousing on the Forur Teachings of Tientai Zhiyi)

초록

그동안 4제, 12인연, 8정도 등의 가르침은 초기불교의 교리 정도로만 인식되어 왔다. 그런데 『열반경』을 근거로 4제 등 모든 교리가 우열론이 아닌 근기론에 따라 각기 다른 네 가지 모습으로 있다고 하는 사교론이 천태지의에 의해 발견되었다. 그렇다면 초기불교에서 중도실상[一乘]의 깨달음을 얻을 수 있을 것인가. 천태의 교관에 의하면, 모든 가르침의 내용을 장·통·별·원교로 구분하는데, 이 4교마다 각각 4제가 있다는 것이다. 경전에 보이는 수행법은 초기불교 『아함경』에서 4제의 3전 12행을 규정하고, 『법화경』에서도 4제의 3전 12행이나 오종법사행 등을 규정하고 있지만 선관(禪觀)의 구체적인 방법을 조직적으로 설명하고 있지는 않다. 그러나 수행론에 보이는 수행법은 아함초기불교의 『구사론』과 법화원교의 『마하지관』에서 조직적이고 체계적으로 명시하고 있다. 본 논고는 두 수행론 중 내범위는 범부와 성인의 분기점으로, 번뇌의 끊음과 깨달음의 내용이 현저한 차이를 보이고 있기 때문에 이를 알아보기 위해 장교와 원교의 내범위 수행에 그 주안점을 두었다. 『구사론』에서는 장교의 내범 4제16행상에 대한 현관만이 견사혹을 끊고 깨달음을 얻는다고 하지만, 이는 이변(二邊)에 떨어져 진사혹은 물론 근본 무명혹도 그대로 남아 42품의 무명번뇌가 제거되지 않는다. 그런데 『마하지관』에서는 원교의 내범 10경 10승관법은 초심에서 구경에 이르기까지 근기에 따라 깨달음을 얻어 상즉으로써 42품의 무명을 제거하고 중도실상[一乘]을 얻게 된다. 이는 원교의 수행계위만이 가능하기 때문에 본고는 이를 중심으로 고찰하였다.

영어초록

The teachings of the Four noble truths, the Twelve links, and the Eight paths have been recognized as the doctrines of the early Buddhism. However, Tientai found four teachings, which tells all of buddhist doctrines including four noble truths have four forms according to the personality of all sentient beings. Then, how can we gain an enlightenment of One-vehicle, the true nature of the Middle Way, from the early Buddhism? According to Tientai's doctrinal point of view, it divides all the teachings into Textual teaching of Tripiṭaka, the integrated teaching, the distinct teaching, and the perfect teaching. Each four doctrines of this dharma teaching has its four noble truths.
The ways of practice in the Sutras identify Three disciples and Twelve precepts of Four noble truths in the Āgama Sūtra of the early Buddhism, and also the Five kinds of masters of the law conduct in the Lotus Sūtra. However they did not explain the details of Dhyana practice systematically. The ways of practice in Practice theory identify the rules and its system organically in the Abhidharmakosabhasya of Āgama in the early Buddhism and the Great Calming and Contemplation of the Lotus Sūtra's the perfect teaching.
This dissertation is focused on the higher level of the ordinary stage by Textual teaching of Sutras and the perfect teaching, since a common buddhist as the boundary between Mediocrity and Saint is the turning point, that a mediocrity comes to Saint, and there are great differences of contents of gaining an enlightenment and eliminating Klesas. In the Abhidharmakosabhasya, the immediate comprehension of Common buddhist's practice ways of the Four doctrines and Sixteen mental aspects in Tripiṭaka Doctrine is able to make people cut the illusion of thinking and desire, gain an enlightenment, but it lets them fall into the secondary. It does not eliminate the illusions like dust and sands including original Avidya. So the Forty two kinds of ignorant Klesas are still left. However, in the Great Calming and Contemplation, Complete Doctrine the higher level of the ordinary stage with the ten objects in meditation and the ten modes of contemplation lets practitioners gain an enlightenment according to their abilities and One vehicle eliminating 42 kinds of ignorances as Phenomenal identity from the primary stage to the ultimate state. This is only possible by the perfect teaching's practice ways, I had a consideration based on it in this dissertation.
