4월혁명기 대구지역 고등학생들의 현실 인식과 실천 (Perception and Practices of High School Students in the Daegu Area during the April Revolution Period)

초록

이 논문에서는 4월혁명기 대구지역 고등학생들의 현실 인식과 정치적･사회적 실천을 살펴본다. 4월혁명기 대구지역 고등학생들은 2･28민주운동을 자발적으로 일으켰을 뿐만 아니라, 그것으로부터 촉발된 4･19혁명에도 주도적으로 참여하였다. 나아가 그들은 이후 전개된 4월혁명기에도 민주주의 실현과 진보적 사회개혁의 주역으로 활약하였다.
당시 대구지역 고등학생들은 무엇보다 민주주의를 실현해야 한다는 인식을 공유하고 있었다. 또한 농촌문제와 경제문제에 지대한 관심을 가지고 그 원인을 분석하면서 해결책을 모색하고자 했다. 그리고 그들은 한국 사회의 후진성을 극복하고 자립 경제를 달성하기 위해서 우선 통일이 되어야 한다는 인식을 가지고 있었다.
대구지역 고등학생들은 4월혁명 발생기에는 가장 먼저 선도적으로 2･28민주운동을 일으켜 이승만의 반공독재정권에 파열구를 내었고, 4･19혁명이 발생할 때 대학생들과 보조를 같이 하면서 이승만 정권 퇴진의 한 축을 담당했다. 4월혁명 성장기에는 전국적 흐름과 보조를 맞추면서 혁명의 공고화를 위한 다양한 활동을 벌였다. 대구지역 고등학생들이 중심적으로 전개한 활동은 학원민주화운동과 정치개혁 운동이었다. 그리고 4월혁명 고양기에도 사회운동의 전반적 흐름을 따라가면서 사회개혁의 중심세력으로 활동하였다. 그들이 전개한 활동은 교원노조 합법화 투쟁을 지지하는 활동, 미군이 사용하고 있는 교사 반환 요구와 한미경제협정체결 반대와 같은 자주화 운동, 그리고 4월혁명 고양기 최대 이슈였던 통일운동과 2대 악법 반대 투쟁이었다.

영어초록

This paper examines the perception and political-social practices of high school students in the Daegu area during the April Revolution period. The high school students in the Daegu region during the April Revolution period not only spontaneously initiated the 2･28 Movement for democracy but also took a leading role in the consequent 4･19 Revolution that followed its lead. Furthermore, they actively contributed as key participants in the April Revolution period, working towards the realization of democracy and progressive societal reform.
At that time, the high school students in the Daegu area shared a common understanding that democracy needed to be realized. They also showed significant interest in rural and economic issues, analyzing their causes and seeking solutions. Moreover, they recognized that national unification was a prerequisite for overcoming the backwardness of Korean society and achieving economic self-sufficiency.
During the early stages of the April Revolution, the high school students in the Daegu area took a leading role by initiating the 2･28 Movement for democracy, which contributed to the fracture of Syngman Rhee's anti-communist authoritarian regime. When the 4･19 Revolution occurred, they collaborated with university students and played a significant role in demanding the resignation of the Syngman Rhee government. In the growth phase of the April Revolution, they engaged in various activities in line with the nationwide movement to solidify the revolution. Key activities undertaken by the high school students in the Daegu area included the democratization of private academies and political reform movements. Even during the later stages of the April Revolution, they remained central forces in social movements, supporting the legalization of the teachers' union, advocating for the return of school buildings used by the U.S. military, opposing the ratification of the U.S.-Korea Economic Agreement, engaging in autonomy movements, and participating in the most significant issues of the April Revolution period such as the reunification movement and the struggle against two oppressive laws.
