遠願寺址 석조물의 조성시기와 가람배치 변화 추정 (Estimation on the Composition Time and Change in Site Layout of the Wonwonsa Temple Stone Structure)

초록

원원사지 석조물의 조성시기와 가람 배치변화 추정이라는 주제로 진행된 본고는 신라사지에 남아 있는 석조물의 시기성 규명을 통해 사역의 변화과정을 고증하고자 하는 가설에서 출발하였다. 논문의 내용을 정리하면 다음과 같은 몇 가지로 요약 가능하다.
원원사지에 남아 있는 석조물은 금당지와 기단, 초석, 석등, 석루조 등이 있다. 이 석조물은 대부분 8세기 중 후반에 조성된 것으로 사찰의 창건시기에 함께 조성되었을 가능성이 높다. 그러나 석등은 다른 석조물과 다르게 9세기 후반 경에 조성되어, 9세기 원원사의 사역에 중수 등의 변화가 일어난 사실을 알 수 있게 해준다. 이어서 금당 면석 관찰을 통해 평평한 면석을 갖춘 단순한 기단 형식이 아닌 우주와 탱주를 모각하고 이중 모접이 된 상대갑석과 하대 저석이 세트로 결구된 정형적인 신라 가구식기단을 사용한 건물임을 밝혀낼수 있었다.
원원사지 석조유물 중 가장 대표적인 것이 석탑 2기인데, 신라시대 가장 먼저 사천왕상을 외부로 노출시킨탑으로 그 가치가 높다. 석탑에 등장하고 있는 12지신상은 명확한 수인을 취하고 있는 점과 연화대좌위에 신상을 배치하고 있는 사실을 통해 경주 왕릉주변에 보이는 12지신상과는 다른 특별한 의미가 담겨 있을 가능성이 높다. 다시 말해 이 석탑의 12지신상과 사천왕상 표현은 사찰 창건의 가장 중요한 영향을 미친 신인종 계열의 문두루 비법을 행하는 신라식 석탑의 표상일 가능성이 높다.
마지막으로 원원사지의 가람배치 축선은 정좌향에서 15〬정도 동쪽으로 치우친 상태로 일반적인 신라사찰의 정좌향 배치 형식과 차이가 있다. 이러한 가람배치 주축선 차이는 창건기 가람축선이 아닌 후대 변형으로 일어난 현상으로 추정하였다.

영어초록

This piece of writing that was written with the estimation on the composition time and change in site layout of the Wonwonsa temple stone structure as its subject started out with the hypothesis to historically research the change process of historical work through investigation on the time of the stone structure. Stone structures left in the Wonwonsa temple are Golden hall temple, stylobate, foundation stone, stone lantern, gargouille, and etc. Most of these stone structures were composed from the mid 8th century to late 8th century and there is a high possibility that they were composed with the foundation of the temple.
However, unlike other stone structures, the stone lantern was composed in the late 9th century so it enables us to acknowledge that there were changes in the historical works of the Wonwonsa temple such as restoration. In succession, through observation of the slabstone of the Golden hall, we were able to tell that it is a building with not just a simple stylobate form with a flat slabstone but a Silla style stylobate form. The most representative stone artifact of Wonwonsa temples is the second phase of stone pagodas. This pagoda has its value in that it is the first pagoda to expose figures of the four Devas in the exterior and through the fact that the twelve zodiac signs on the pagoda has several people and is arranged on top of the lotus pedestals, it is highly possible that there is a special meaning other than the twelve zodiac signs seen around the royal tombs in Gyeongju. In other words, the expression of the twelve zodiac signs and the four Devas on the stone pagodas may be representation of Silla style stone pagodas that uses Mundra secret magic of the Sinin sect that greatly affected the foundation of temples.
Lastly, the axis of the site layout of the Wonwonsa temple leans about 15〬to the east from the exposure and is different from the form of exposure layout of Silla temples. Such difference in site layout is estimated to be a phenomenon due to the later changes and not the site axis during the formation period.
