시베리아와 그 주변지역 돌날석기문화의 기원과 확산에 대한 새로운 관점 (A New Angle on the Origin and Disporsal of the Blade Tool Industry in Siberia and the Contiguous Territories)

초록

아프리카 기원설과 다른 돌날석기문화의 다양성 측면에서의 새로운 자 료들은 최근 연구 성과로 확인되었다. 시베리아와 몽골과 중앙아시아의 여러 유적에서 중기-후기구석기시대의 과도기에 해당하는 여러 유적들이 이에 해당한다. 특히 몽골지역의 톨보르유적군과 중앙아시아의 오비-라흐 마트유적은 편년과 성격 설정에 있어 신중할 필요성이 있다고 판단된다. 세형돌날문화 기원에 대해 돌날석기문화의 다양성을 통해서 확인할 필 요가 있다. 시베리아와 그 주변 지역의 전형적인 돌날문화유적에서 카라콜 유형 여부와 상관없이 소형돌날과 비체계화된 세형몸돌들이 공반된다. 이 몸돌들은 세형몸돌로 규정할 경우 약 27ka부터 동북아시아 전역에서 확인 되는 체계화된 박리체계를 갖고 있는 세형돌날문화의 확산기의 몸돌들과 의 관계 설정에 많은 혼돈을 가져올 것으로 판단된다. 따라서 기술체계적 측면에서 여전히 이 비체계화된 세형몸돌과 체계화된 몸돌과의 기술적 연 관성을 직접 연결시킬만한 근거는 아직 발견되지 않았다고 생각한다. 한편 카라콜유형의 석기군이 돌날석기문화가 정착되어가며 중소형의 1타격면·1작업면의 몸돌과 2타격면·1작업면의 몸돌들과 같이 기술적으 로 중소형돌날을 전략적으로 떼어내는 방식의 기술이 확대되는 것은 주 목할 만한 기술 변화이다. 변화의 맥락에서 비체계화된 세형몸돌과 소 형돌날들이 등장하는 것은 아닌지 보다 체계적인 연구가 필요해 보인 다. 특히 이런 비체계화된 세형몸돌들이 소량이지만 30-40ka의 유적들 에서 지속적으로 확인되고 있다. 이 비체계화된 세형몸돌과 체계화된 세형몸돌 간의 시간적 차이가 줄어드는 양상을 보인다. 그 기술변화의 중심에는 기술의 체계화를 가져온 양면박리기술을 석기로가 아니라 몸 돌로 활용하는 데에 있다

영어초록

Based on the new archeological specimens in Siberia and the surrounding areas, the research trends and new hypotheses of the blade industry have been examined. As the result, some of the hypotheses already suggested are considered to be reexamined. First of all, the new data on the various aspects of the blade industry, which are different from the “Out of Africa” theory, draw our attention. This is because they show that many remains from the transition period between the middle and the upper paleolithic have been found not only in Siberia but in Mongolia and Central Asia as well. Especially, the artifacts of Tolbor in Mongolia region and those of Obi-Rakhmat in Central Asia need to be carefully considered in terms of the chronology and characteristics of initial upper paleolithic. It is worth noticing that the chronological record of Obi-Rakhmat remains sets an upper limit in 85ka. Moreover, the fact that the existing Kara Bom and Karakol variant don’t always apply to this region should not be overlooked as well. Another important point of this study is that the origin of the microblade industry should be verified based on the diversity of the blade industry. In other words, the remains from the blade industry in Siberia and the surrounding areas are associated with small-sized blades and unsystematic microblades, regardless of Karakol variant. If we define these cores as microblade cores, they may cause some confusion in establishing the relationship with other blades from the period when microblade industry spread out, which are found all over Northeast Asia from about its 27ka and have systematic detaching technique. Therefore, there is still little evidence to make close connection between unsystematic microblade core and other systematic microblade cores in terms of technical system. Meanwhile, it is a remarkable technological shift that the blade tool group of Karakol variant adopted a lithic technology, which was the similar approach that the middle and small-sized blade cores of 1 striking platform 1 working face and those of 2 striking plaform and 1 working face took. Along with such changes, more systematic studies are required to find out if the unsystematic microblade cores and small-sized blades would appear. Even though being a few, such unsystematic microblade cores have been consistently found in the remains from 30-40ka. Also, because the timing difference between the systematic microblade cores and unsystematic ones has been gradually decreased, it is highly expected that the remains which may help us to find out the technological change at that time would be soon discovered. The fact that they used bifacial technique as a core not a tool, which brought the systematization of technology, is the key of the technological change.
