스포츠내셔널리즘의 형성과 맥락: 새로운 시선 (Forming and contexts of nationalism in sport: A new perspective)

초록

내셔널리즘은 국가주의와 민족주의로 번역되고 그 의미도 긍정과 부정의 양 갈래로 나뉘어져 있다. 이와 같은 양상에 따라 스포츠에 있어서 국가주의는 파시즘적으로, 민족주의는 구국주의적 맥락으로 이해·해석되고 있다. 즉 정권의 부당한 의도에 의한 스포츠 정책은 주체성을 침해하고 조작하기 때문에 비이성적 국가관을 내포한 국가주의로, 스포츠를 통해 구국하고 애국하려는 시도들은 스포츠를 ‘민족을 위한’이라는 목적을 관철시키는 민족주의로 간주해 왔다. 그러나 스포츠에 있어서 이 두 맥락은 그 주체가 상향식인가 하향식인가라는 문제와 방향성에 집중할 뿐, 국가나 민족을 지칭하는 이른바 ‘공동체 운명’이라는 같은 지점을 향하고 있음을 간과해 왔다. 따라서 이 연구에서는 스포츠와 내셔널리즘의 역사적 형성과정과 그 맥락에 대한 분석을 통해 과거의 전통적 시각을 넘어 새로운 시선이 필요한 시점이 도래하였음을 주장하였다. 이는 최근 스포츠내셔널리즘의 출발점 자체가 국가 또는 민족으로부터 다원화되어 가고 있으며, 이는 문화라는 다소 폭넓은 개념으로 이행되고 있음을 의미한다. 다시 말해 스포츠 내셔널리즘이 과거의 국가주의, 민족주의라는 영토나 공동체와 같은 ‘단일화’적 성격의 주체를 벗어나 문화라는 다원적 사회현상을 지칭하는 개념으로 설정됨에 따라 그 본질 자체가 변화되고 있다는 것이다. 이는 소수 엘리트의 의도가 아닌 다수의 자발적이고 합의된 개인이라는 근원적 주체로부터 표출되는 새로운 스포츠내셔널리즘으로서 과거의 관점을 구시대의 낡은 관념으로 낙착시킬 뿐 만 아니라, 스포츠와 내셔널리즘의 진보적인 관계에 대한 새로운 시선을 조망하는 것이기도 하다.

영어초록

Nationalism is translated as state-nationalism and nationalism. Even its meaning is divided into two branches in affirmation and negation. According to this aspect, the sport is being understood and analyzed the state-nationalism as fascist, and the nationalism as salvation-based context. In other words, the sports policy by unfair intention of the political power violates and manipulates subjectivity, thereby having regarded what included irrational view of a nation as the state-nationalism, and the attempts to save and love the nation through sports as the nationalism, which tries to accomplish the aim called 'for the nation' in terms of sport. However, in sport, these two contexts just concentrate on a problem and directivity as saying that whether the main subject is bottom-up or top-down, but have overlooked that they are pointing to the same point called 'destiny of community,' which designates a state or nation. Accordingly, this study asserted that the time point arrived when requires new sight beyond traditional vision in the past, through analyzing on the historical formation process and its context in sports and nationalism. This implies that the starting point of the sports nationalism itself is being recently pluralized from country or nation, and this is implemented into a little broader concept called culture. In other words, the sports nationalism is established a concept, which designates the plural social phenomenon called culture, with escaping from the main subject in 'simplified' character like territory or community called state-nationalism and nationalism in the past. Thus, its essence itself is being changed. As this is the new sports nationalism that is expressed from the fundamental subject called the majority of individuals who are voluntary and agreed, not the intention of minority elites, as the new sports nationalism, it not only allows the past perspective to be settled as old idea in the old period, but also illuminates new perspective on the progressive relationship between sport and nationalism.
