초록

요내는 명문 〈등태산기〉에서도 확인할 수 있듯이 사직 후에도 고증을 바탕으로 한 지리 관련 연구에 매진하였고, 이러한 학문적 실천은 실제에 부합하는 지방지를 구현하고자하는 관심으로 이어졌다. 그는 지방지 역시 역사서의 하나로 인식하여, 그 작성의 요체로 정확한 지리 정보를 강조하였고 또한 그 서술을 위해서는 역사가의 재능을 갖춰야 한다고 말했다. 요내의 문집에 수록된 많은 家傳들은 그의 역사가적 실천의 연장선상에 있다고 볼 수 있다. 지리 연구를 통한 장소성의 파악은 그가 세계를 보는 인식의 틀로도 기능하여 풍수적 이해와 함께 상보적인 인문지리적 인식 체계를 구현하였다. 이러한 인문지리적 시각의 견지는 그가 줄곧 문학의 역할과 함께 고민해온 사회적 책무의식과 깊이 맞물린 것이다.

영어초록

The record of climbing Mount Tai(登泰山記) is one of Yao Nai’s best-known texts, and it is impressive that the texts are being released while carefully checking the geographical shape of the mountains and rivers. As such, his writings had a close connection with geographic perspective based on historical investigation. However, little research has been done on Yao Nai’s geographic perception.
Even after resignation, Yao Nai continued to work on geography-related studies based on historical investigation. Although he acknowledged the need for historical investigation here, it should be noted that the area in which he applied the methodology was mainly geography. His academic practice led to his interest in realizing local chronicles that matched the realities through his examination. He pointed out that local chronicles only describe the shape of the old region, and does not reflect the current geographic information, and also emphasized that authors should go on an on-site survey themselves.
He emphasized accurate geographic information as the main element of local chronicles because he recognized that local chronicles is also one of the historical books. Since the local area is a branch of history, the narrator emphasized that the historian must be talented. It was to contain the truth that is the main element of the historical narrative.
Yao Nai had a long history of intention to build geography knowledge and record it as a document, and did not abandon it for life. Many of the family members in his collection can be seen as an extension of ‘The matter of record(紀述之事)’ he meant.
Also, we should not overlook the fact that geographic information also served as a framework for the perception of the world. In many writings, he enjoyed the composition of debating the geographic location and, furthermore, the interest in placeness was very high. His view of FengShui(風水) shows his interest in location. For him, the geographical environment was consequently recognized as an important condition for civilization to bloom. Geographical environment was noted as an important condition for culture to flourish. In addition, by emphasizing that the characteristics of the place can be changed by the efforts of humans cultivated in the environment, complementary human geographic recognition system was established. Considering the local chronicles of Yao Nai and the role of literature derived from it, as introduced at the outset, it is necessary to take a new look at revealing characteristics such as carefully capturing the shape of the mountain stream that the artist himself visited and focusing on accurate narrative In travel notes such as The record of climbing Mount Tai.
Finally, with regard to his holding the perspective of human geography regarding the role of literature, his geographical perspective was also related with social responsibility. His geographical perspective was improved in an academic orientation, and the academic work he had studied was headed f or t he w orld a gain. That is w hy he did literature a nd was also a s cholar’s job.
