초록

There is a saying ‘Look back on the past when going through political chaos and the country’s future is not seen.‘This is why history is futurology, not past science. The Joseon Dynasty was the last dynasty in our history.
The king of the Joseon Dynasty was the one to connect the sky and the earth and the whole nation, not a mere man of power. Nevertheless, the Joseon history has been distorted and glorified, since this was recorded and told by the kings of later generations and is the winner’s story.
That’s the reason why we must keep studying for uncovering the truth. It cannot be denied that the Joseon history has highly influenced our consciousness and behaviors today, whatever it’s been positive or negative.
Obtaining teachings from good things and taking bad things as lessons helps us live better than now. How did the kings of the Joseon Dynasty live and end their lives? This study started from the question.
With the expectation that life and death of the kings would have depended on another factor, not just diseases, this study was launched. Then data were gathered and a vast amount of study results were acquired for a long period of time. However, this study fails to mention all of these results fully, since these are condensed to only about 20 papers for publishing. Further research, therefore, will need to release study findings that are not included in this study.
Notwithstanding this limitation, this study has significance by looking into the effect of foods, characters and life habits on diseases and death of kings in the early Joseon Dynasty era, and what those diseases are in modern medical science. This is also an attainment of National Research Foundation of Korea that funded this study.
