원형 스토리의 변형과 交構를 통해서 본 <영이록>의 특징 (The Characteristic of Through Transformation of the Original Story and Combination with the Mediated Story)

초록

<영이록>은 <소현성록>에 있는 손기 이야기를 원형 스토리로 하고 있다. 여기에 출생담과 다양한 매개 스토리와의 交構를 통해 새로운 인물 성격의 창조가 이루어지고 있는 작품이다. 필자는 <영이록>의 이러한 특징을 작품 속 구체적 사례를 통해 제시한 후, 이 작품의 인물 성격 창조와 서사의 변형 과정을 탐색하였다.
먼저 이 작품에서는 원형 스토리에 없는 출생담을 수용하고 있는데, 그 형식과 내용은 기존의 군담 영웅소설과 매우 다르게 나타난다. 이는 인물의 성격이 바뀌게 됨을 의미하며, 동시에 서사의 방향성이 달라짐을 뜻한다. 이를 위해 작가는 바보 손기 이야기에 출생담을 견인시켜 인물 성격 창조의 토대 변인으로 활용하고 있다. 그리고 여기에 인물 성격 창조의 매개 요소로서 다양한 매개 스토리를 교구시키고 있다. 그리하여 최종적으로 ‘護國天師 손기 이야기’라는 변형 스토리가 형성될 수 있도록 하였다.
이와 같이 원형 스토리에 출생담이 가미되고, 이어서 매개 스토리가 교구됨으로 인해 작품 전체 서사의 변이와 확장이 일어난다. 그 순서는 먼저, 원형 스토리와 출생담의 교구를 통해 서사의 변이 가능성이 배태된다. 바보 손기가 비범한 인물로 변화되기 때문이다. 그래서 이후 연속적으로 매개 되는 스토리와의 교구를 통해 서사의 변이가 한층 다양화되고, 아울러 전체 서사는 원형 스토리보다 그 편폭이 큰 것으로 확장된다.
이러한 서사의 변이와 확장은, 인물의 성격과 입공의 성격을 두 가지로 병치시키는 효과를 낳는다. 하나는 천상계 명령 실현 중심의 서사이고, 다른 하나는 손기 개인 중심의 자아 성취 중심 서사이다. 전자는 공적 영역의 집단적 가치를 염두에 둔 것이고, 후자는 독자와의 감정적 유대감을 염두에 둔 감성 중심의 서사이다. 그러면서 동시에 이 두 가지 서사에서 공통적으로 드러나는 것은, 正心․正道를 통한 세상의 교화 및 태평성대 실현이다. 이 공통된 요소가 두 가지 서사를 전체적으로 통어하고 조절하는 역할을 하여 서사의 방향성을 통일시키고 있다.
따라서 <영이록>이 표면적으로는 忠의 실현을 통한 立身揚名의 자아실현을 전면에 내세우고 있는 듯하지만, 이러한 손기의 자아 성취 서사는 천상계의 인간 세상 교화의지와 명령 서사 속에 모두 수렴되는 것으로 나타난다고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

<Young Yi Rok> has the original story of Son-Ki in <So Hyeon Sung Rok>. On the basis of it, new character's personality has created by combining of the birth-folk tale and the other mediated stories. On this paper, the characteristic of <Young Yi Rok> was presented through the concrete examples from the work and the process of character's personality creation and transformation of the story were studied.
First of all, this work accepted the birth-folk tale that was not derived from the original story. Its form and content has a very different style comparing to the existed martial heroic novels. It means that the character's personality would be changed and story's directivity would be different at the same time. For this, the writer put the birth-folk tale into the foolish Son-Ki story and used it as a basis factor of creating new character so that it combined various of mediated stories by the mediation factor of creating character's personality. Finally, it made possible to form the transformed story, 'the Story of the glorious patriot, Son-Ki'.
Like this, the whole narrative story can be transformed and expanded when the original story adds a birth-folk tale and combines to the other mediated stories. The first step is that the possibility of changing the story begins to emerge through combination of the original story and birth-folk tales because the foolish Son-Ki changed into the extraordinary person. The story continuously combined to the other mediated stories so that the narrative transformation has more diversified and the whole story has expanded wider than the original story.
The story transformation and expansion effect on juxtaposing the character's personality and his paying tribute into two things. One is the narration centered on the realization of the celestial order, the other is the narration centered on the self achievement of Son-Ki. The former has focused on the communal living value of public spheres and the latter has focused on the feeling of connectedness with the readers. Also, reformation of the world and realization reign of peace through the right mind and path appeared in two narrations as a common feature. It has a role to control and modulate two narrations in general so it harmonizes the directivity of the story.
Therefore, the theme of <Young Yi Rok> seems to focus on the self achievement realization of making a successful career through serving the country faithfully. But, the story of Son-Ki's self achievement was taken to the narration of heaven's willing and order to enlighten human world.
