한국YMCA 영ㆍ지ㆍ체 교육이론을 기반으로 본 청소년 역량 (Youth Competency based on the Korea YMCA's Educational Philosophy of Spirit, Mind and Body)

초록

본 연구는 한국YMCA 영·지·체 교육이념을 현대적으로 해석하여 한국YMCA 청소년운동의 의미를 이어가는 동시에 미래의 청소년에게 필요한 역량을 도출하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 청소년 역량에 대한 국내외 선행연구 및 국외 청소년 단체를 중심으로 문헌분석을 실시하였으며, 분석결과를 활용하여 한국YMCA 영ㆍ지ㆍ체 삼각형 이론에 적용한 후 한국YMCA의 청소년 역량 분석에 사용하고자 하였다. 국내외 문헌연구에 제시된 청소년 역량은 시민의식 및 사회참여역량, 건강관리 및 정신건강역량, 지적역량 및 진로역량, 문제해결역량이었다. 국외 청소년 단체들이 제시한 청소년 역량으로 4-H운동은 역량, 배려, 인성, 유대감, 자신감이며 미국의 약속동맹은 건강, 기초능력과 사고력, 직업능력, 자원봉사이다. 서치연구소는 외적자산과 내적자산이며 Ready by 21은 신체적, 학업적, 사회적 역량을 강조하였다. 이와 같은 결과를 바탕으로 한국YMCA의 청소년 역량에 주는 시사점을 파악하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 영적 역량은 모든 생명에 대한 가치와 존중을 바탕으로 청소년 자신뿐만이 아니라 지구상의 생명체에 대한 존중과 신뢰를 포괄해야 한다. 둘째, 지적 역량은 자신이 살아가는 세계를 알 수 있는 비판적 사고능력과 의사소통역량이 필요하다. 셋째, 실천 역량은 실행의 가능성을 높이는 건강한 신체, 대인관계기술, 시민 역량을 포함해야 한다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study was to focus on the issues regarding the competencies that are needed for the future youth while continuing the messages of the youth movements of the Korea YMCA by modernly interpreting the Korea YMCA's educational philosophy of spirit, mind and body. To this end, previous Korean and international researches, and international youth organizations that highlight on youth competencies were evaluated and the results were used to analyze the Korea YMCA's youth competencies, and to apply to the Korea YMCA's educational philosophy of spirit, mind and body. Previous Korean and international researches described youth competencies as citizenship and social participation competency, health care and mental health competency, intellectual competency and career competency, and problem solving competency. The examples of the youth competencies from various international youth organizations are as follows. 4-H USA emphasized competence, caring, character, connection and confidence, while America's Promise Alliance emphasized health, basic ability and critical thinking skills and marketable skills, and opportunity to serve. Search Institute emphasized internal and external assets while Ready by 21 emphasized physical, academical, and social competency. Based on these results, implications for the Korea YMCA's youth competency are as follows. First, spiritual competency is necessary to the competencies encompassing youth themselves and the respect and trust for life on Earth on the basis of values and respect for all life. Second, mindful competency is needed to critical thinking skills and communication skills to understand the world in which they live. Third, practical competency should include a healthy body, interpersonal skills, and civic skills to increase the possibilities of implementation.
