동물의 움직임을 활용한 거친 신체놀이 활동이 도서지역 유아의 공격성과 일상적 스트레스에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Rough- and -tumble Play Activities using Animal Movements on the Aggression and daily stress of Children living on Island Areas)

초록

본 연구는 동물의 움직임을 활용한 거친 신체놀이 활동이 전남지역 소재 도서지역 유아의 공격성과 일상적 스트레스에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 하였다. 연구대상은 전남 지역 도서 지역 중 H군과 Y군에 소재한 L유치원 만 5세 유아 50명으로 하늘반 1개 학급 25명을 실험집단으로, 바다반 1개 학급 25명을 통제집단으로 임의 배정하였다. 실험집단에는 동물의 움직임과 관련된 거친 신체놀이 활동을 적용하였고, 통제집단에는 누리과정 생활주제와 관련된 바깥놀이 활동을 적용하였다.
동물의 움직임을 활용한 거친 신체놀이 활동의 교육적 효과를 검증하기 위해 한미옥(2000)이 개발한 교사용 유아 공격성 관찰척도와 염현경(1998)이 우리나라 유아의 실정에 적합한 내용으로 구성하여 제작한 한국 유아의 일상적 스트레스 척도 KPDSS(Korean preschool Daily Stress Scale)를 사용하였다.
연구결과 첫째, 동물의 움직임과 관련된 거친 신체놀이 활동을 적용하였던 실험집단 유아의 공격성 점수가 통제집단 유아의 공격성 점수보다 전체적으로 유의하게 감소된 것으로 나타나 동물의 움직임과 관련된 거친 신체놀이 활동이 유아의 공격성 감소를 초래한 것으로 볼 수 있다. 이는 결과적으로 유아들이 거친 신체놀이 활동에 참여한 후 물건을 던지는 대물 공격, 친구들을 괴롭히는 대인 공격, 짜증내기, 고자질하기 등 언어적 공격이 또래관계에 부정적일 수 있다는 생각을 이야기 나눔을 통해 또래친구들과 공유함으로써 자연스럽게 유아의 공격성 감소에 효과적이었음을 시사 받을 수 있으며, 또한 놀이 활동이 또래관계의 질을 개선하는 놀이 치료로서 역할을 해 유아의 문제행동 감소에 긍정적인 역할(정솜이, 한유진, 2017)을 할 수 있음을 간접적으로 시사하고 있음을 알 수 있었다.
둘째, 동물의 움직임과 관련된 거친 신체놀이 활동을 적용하였던 실험집단 유아의 일상적 스트레스 평균 점수가 통제집단 유아의 일상적 스트레스 평균 점수보다 전체적으로 유의하게 감소된 것으로 나타나 동물의 움직임과 관련된 거친 신체놀이 활동이 유아의 일상적 스트레스 감소를 초래한 것으로 볼 수 있다. 아들에게 거친 신체 놀이는 자신의 신체에 대한 다양한 실험과 탐색, 즐거운 감정의 표현, 친밀감과 우정의 표현, 우월감의 표현, 창의적인 생각의 표현할 수 있도록 하는 의미를 가지고 있기 때문에, 거친 신체 놀이를 통해 유아들은 자신의 신체에 대해서 탐색하고 실험을 해나가며 신체적 발달을 높일 수 있었고, 즐거운 감정을 마음껏 표출할 수 있다는 연구결과(고여훈, 엄정애, 2014)는 거친 신체놀이 활동이 유아의 일상적 스트레스를 감소시키는데 중요한 역할을 할 수 있음을 시사하고 있다.
본 연구를 통해 결론적으로, 동물의 움직임과 관련된 거친 신체놀이 활동을 한 실험집단의 유아들은 누리과정 생활주제와 관련된 바깥놀이 활동을 했던 통제집단의 유아들보다 공격성 및 일상적 스트레스 수준이 감소되는 긍정적인 효과가 나타났음을 알 수 있다. 동물의 움직임과 관련된 거친 신체놀이 활동 교수·학습 모형은 유아들이 동물을 좋아하고 우리 주변에서 가족으로 함께 공유하고 있을 만큼 친숙하고 접근하기 쉬운 것 중 하나가 동물이기 때문에, 이러한 동물이라는 매체를 활용하여 흥미를 유발하였고, 거친 신체놀이 상황에 유아의 관심이 생길 수 있도록 해주었다. 유아들은 동물이 되어보기도 하고, 동물의 소리와 모습과 관련된 거친 신체놀이 활동에 관해서 토론을 해 보기도 하였다. 이를 통해 유아들은 또래친구와의 놀이 상황에서 즐겁고 신나는 놀이 활동과 남에게 해롭고 공격적인 성향의 신체놀이 활동 상황을 찾아보았다. 또한, 유아들은 서로의 역할을 바꾸어가면서 공격하는 팀, 쫓기는 팀에 대한 상황을 경험하였다. 그러한 과정에서 유아들은 동물의 움직임과 관련된 거친 신체놀이 활동을 하면서 해롭고 공격적인 놀이 활동을 다양하게 경험함으로써 다른 사람에게 피해를 줄 수 있는 신체놀이 활동과 그렇지 않은 신체놀이 활동을 구분해 보았다. 결론적으로, 유아들은 거친 신체놀이 활동 중에 느꼈던 생각과 느낀 점 이야기 나누기 활동과 새로운 놀이규칙을 만드는 토의 활동을 통해 거친 신체놀이 활동에서 주의해야 할 점을 실천해 보면서 공격적인 행동과 유치원 활동 속에서 나타나는 다양한 스트레스를 감소할 수 있는 기회를 받았다. 즉, 본 연구에서는 거친 신체놀이 활동을 적용한 교수·학습 모형은 유아교육현장에서 유아의 공격성 및 일상적 스트레스 수준을 감소시키는데 긍정적으로 활용할 수 있는 중요한 교수-학습 매체가 될 수 있음을 시사해 주었다.

영어초록

This study was to find out what influence rough-and-tumble play activities potentially have on reducing children's aggression and daily levels of stress. Located at H count and at Y count on the islands in Jeolla Province, the research group randomly assigned 25 students from one class in the sky class to the experimental group and 25 from one class in the sea class to the control group. The experimental group applied rough -and -tumble play activities related to animal movements, and the control group applied outdoor activities related to the Nuri program life theme.
In order to verify the educational effects of rough -and -tumble play activities using animal movements, the observation measurement tool of infant aggression for teachers developed by Han, Mi-ok (2000) and a daily stress scale of Korean infants developed by Yeom Hyun-kyung (1998), KPDSS(Korean preschool Daily Stress Scale),which was composed of the contents suitable for the reality of Korean infants, were used. The rough -and -tumble activities associated with animals’ movements can be contributed to a decrease in the aggressiveness of infants As a result, the study suggested that this is the effective way to reduce the aggressiveness of an infant by sharing with peers the idea that object- attacks, such as throwing objects after participating in rough physical activities, and verbal attacks like bullying, interpersonal attacks, irritation, and gossiping, could be negative for a peer relationship and play a role in reducing the quality of peer-to-peer relationships (2017, a positive role for infant behavior). In addition, the play activity served as a play treatment to improve the quality of peer relationships, indirectly suggesting that it could play a positive role in reducing the problematic behavior of infants (Jung Shom, Han Yu-jin, 2017).
Second, the average score in the daily stress of a group of infants applying rough -and -tumble activities related to animal movements has been shown to have decreased significantly overall over the average score of the daily stress of the control group infants, which can be seen as causing the daily stress reduction of the infants. For boys sons, rough -and -tumble play has the meaning of various experiments and explorations of the body, expressions of joyous emotions, expressions of intimacy and friendship, expressions of superiority, and expressions of creative thought. Through studies on rough -and -tumble play, infants have been able to explore and experiment with their bodies, enhance their physical development, and express joyful emotions as much as they like (Ko Yeo-hoon, Um Jung-ae, 2014). This suggests that rough -and -tumble activities can play an important role in reducing the daily stress of infants.
In conclusion, this study shows that infants in the experimental groups who engaged in rough -and -tumble activities related to animal movements had positive effects on reducing levels of aggression and daily stress than those in the control groups who engaged in outdoor activities related to Nuri program life subjects. Since one of the most familiar and accessible things that infants love and share with their families around us is animals, the rough -and -tumble activity teaching and learning models associated with animal movements was created to attract infants' interest by taking advantage of the interest in these animals in rough -and -tumble play situations.
Infants imitated animals, and even discussed rough -and -tumble play related to the sounds and shapes of animals.
In doing so, infants looked for fun and exciting activities in playing with their peers and physical activities that are harmful and aggressive to others. Also, infants have experienced situations for attacking and chasing teams as they change their roles. In the process, infants have identified whether these activities can harm others or not by experiencing a variety of harmful and aggressive activities related to animals' movements.
In conclusion, infants were given the opportunity to reduce the various stresses that occur in aggressive behavior and kindergarten activities by practicing what they should be careful in doing when playing rough -and -tumble play activities and by sharing their thoughts and feelings while playing rough -and -tumble play activities and discussing the creation of new rules for play. In other words, this study suggests that teaching and learning models that apply rough -and -tumble play activities can be an important teaching-learning medium that can be used positively to reduce aggression and day-to-day stress levels in infants' education sites.
