개념사 연구:역사서술과 언어학의 상호작용 — 구조의미론, 원형의미론 및 텍스트언어학을 중심으로 — (Begriffsgeschichte as an Interaction between Historiography and Linguistics — From a perspective of Structural Semantics, Prototype-Semantics and Text-Linguistics—)

초록

역사적 사고에 일반적 토대를 제공하는 것은 자연법칙이 아니라 의미론이라고 선언한 카시러(E. Cassirer)의 입장은 ‘개념’을 문화사적 연관관계의 대변자로 간주하는 공식이다. 이에 개념사 연구와 역사의미론은, 개념을 어휘적 의미(lexikalische Bedeutung)와 더불어 역사적 현실에서 유래하는 여러 성분의 응축물로서 역사 발전의 지표(Indikatoren)이자 요인(Faktoren)으로 관찰하여 특정한 시대의 역사적·사회적 지식을 재구성하는 일에 매진해 왔다.
1970년대 역사학에 나타난 언어학적 전회(linguistic turn), 특히 낱말밭 이론(Wortfeldtheorie) 과 구조의미론(Strukturelle Semantik)이라는 방법론적 출발점은 오늘날 기호학(Semiotik), 텍스트언어학(Textlinguistik)과 화행론(Sprechakttheorie)의 이론소까지 섭취하면서 확대되고 있다. 본고에서는 기호학적 전체성의 시각에서 기본개념들(Grundbegriffe)의 단위를 설정하고 설정된 코드값(Code-Wert)을 규명하는 의미론(Semantik: 개념밭), 통합체(Paradigma) 속에서 단위들의 문맥 가치를 규명하는 통사론(Syntax/Syntaktik) 그리고 텍스트와 텍스트종류(Textsorten)의 층위에서 텍스트성(Textualität)과 발화수반행위(Illokution)를 판정하는 화용론(Pragmatik)의 원근법에 비추어 역사적 기본개념을 연구하는 언어학적인 방안을 살펴보고자 한다.
향후의 과제로서 주목할 부분은 한편으로 주체가 ‘기의’를 지각하는 과정에서활성화되는 인지-틀(Frame)과 원형(原型, Prototypen)이며, 다른 한편으로 개념사 연구에서 거의 주목하지 않았던 빌레펠트 사회학파의 거두 루만(N. Luhmann,1927∼1998)이 정립한 체계이론(Systemtheorie)의 함의이다. 특히 사회적 체계들의 독립분화(Ausdifferenzierung sozialer Systeme)를 작동시키는 “차이의 동일성(Einheit der Differenz)”은 ‘기본개념’의 설정에 의미심장한 단서를 제공한다. 언어학과 역사학이라는 얼핏 이질적으로 보이는 분과를 학제적 의제로 결집시켜 온 개념사 연구는 이론과 실제 양면에서 역사전개의 역학을 심층적으로 이해하는 데 중요한 기여를 할 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

According to Cassirer’s viewpoint, the common basis for historical thinking should lie in Semantics, rather than in the laws of nature. In this respect, ‘Begriffsgeschichte’ and Historical Semantics consider Begriffe as lexical meanings, as well as representatives of various components derived from historical realities, and, finally observe them as indicators and factors of social change and of knowledge of particular eras(e. g.: Sattelzeit : 1750∼1870). Starting with a linguistic turn of Historical Science in the 1970s,especially with the theory of the Lexical Field(Wortfeldtheorie) and of Structural Semantics(Strukturelle Semantik, E. Coseriu & F. Rastier), research into Conceptual History is now taking advantage of adjacent disciplines,such as Semiotics, Prototype-Semantics, Text-Linguistics and Speech-Act Theory.
In this paper, in accordance with semiotic holistics, we put ‘Basic-Concepts’(Grundbegriffe) on the level of semantics, in order to decide the value of conceptual-units; on the level of syntactics, to identify the code-meanings in proper syntagmatic relations; finally, on the level of pragmatics, to evaluate the illocutionary characteristics of text-genres in the layers of discourse and intertextuality, even important to perceive the process of cognition activated by Prototype in certain conceptual frames.
Noting the challenges of the future as a task of Conceptual Historiography,we would like to emphasize the Systems-theory(Systemtheorie) by Niklas Luhmann(1927∼1998), pioneer of the Bielefeld School in Germany, to whom historians have paid unjustly little attention. In particular, the notion of ‘differentiation of social systems’(Ausdifferenzierung sozialer Systeme), which operates on the basis of ‘the equality of difference’(Einheit der Differenz), will provide decisive clues for further consideration. These approaches, at first glance, appear to be heterogeneous, but this interdisciplinary agenda will be able to make a significant contribution to theoretical and practical development for Historiography, on conceptual dynamics.
