고백으로서의 역사, 역사로서의 고백 - 양명문의 전반기 시세계 연구 - (A History as a Confession & a Confession as a History: A Study on Yang, Myung-mun's Poetic World in His First Half of Life)

초록

본고는 시인 탄생 1세기가 넘도록 침묵 속에 묻혀있던 양명문의 시집과 시론, 『종군일기』(1951), 시평과 회고록 등 적지 않은 자료를 발굴하여 그의 전반기 시세계를 실증적으로 재구하고 주요 특징을 탐사해 보았다. 그의 시세계의 출발점은 일제 말기 시집 『화수원』의 미입수로 인해 추적하지 못했지만 재북시절의 시세계는 『송가』를 통해 서정적이고 민족주의적인 감성과 시극적 실험까지 노정하고 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 북에서 필화사건을 겪고 예술의 자유를 찾아 월남한 이후, 그가 종군시인으로 체험했던 한국전은 그에게 예술의 존재의미를 역사와 시대 속에서 자각하게 했던 중대한 계기이다. 전쟁기와 전후기에 줄곧 ‘극시’ 또는 ‘교향시곡’ 의 형태로 행해진 그의 시적 실험에는 전후시단의 시풍토에 대한 비판의식과 혁신의 의지가 밑금으로 깔려 있다.
그는 개인의 내면적 표현에 무게를 둔 고백적 서정시와, 보다 사회적이고 대중적인 강점을 가진 서사적 극시라는 갈래의 창작을 통해 개인의 서사가 시대와 함께 숨쉴 수 있는 방법을 탐색해갔다. 이러한 그의 전반기 시세계는 시대비판과 예언자적 감성을 담은 시집 『화성인』과 자전적이면서도 신화적 요소가 강한 『푸른 전설』을 낳는데, 전후시단에서도 찾아보기 힘든 이 개성적인 시집들은 『이목구비』에서 분명한 한 단락으로 매듭지어지며 그가 추구해온 모든 시적 실험과 메시지를 총합시킨다. 양명문의 시세계는 그간 월남시인 혹은 ‘반공시인’이라는 틀에 갇혀 큰 주목을 끌지 못했지만, 전반기 시가 보여주는 사상적 개성과 시적 실험만으로도 우리의 현대시사에서 좀더 중요한 위치로 복권되어야 온당할 것이다.

영어초록

This writing discovered not a few materials, such as Yang, Myung- mun's collection of poems, poetics, “War Diary”, comments on current events, and memoir, etc. during the first half of his life, empirically reconstituted his poetic world during the first half of life on the basis of the interview with his bereaved family, and explored its major characteristics. Poet Yang's starting point of his poetic world is difficult to clearly grasp because Hwasuwon, which was published in the late period of Japanese rule, was scattered to be lost, but this writing could confirm that his poetic world during his stay in North Korea disclosed lyrical, nationalist sentiments and even experiments on poetic drama through Songga(a song of praise) After coming down to Korea from the North in search of freedom of art, the Korean War he experienced as a war poet was a grave momentum for him to awake to the meaning of art existence in history and the times. In his poetic experiments made continuously in the form of ‘dramatic poetry’, or ‘symphonic poetry music’, his will for innovation of poetic climate in post-war world of poetry is clearly underlined.
As for him, if a lyric poem should be a confessional style putting emphasis on an individual's internal expression, the epical dramatic poem available for performance is understood as the style having a more social, popular strength; through creation of both parts, the poet Yang explored the way for an individual narration to breath, together with the times.
His poetic world like this during the first half of his life gives birth to the collection of poems Hwaseongin(a Martian) including his criticism of the times and prophetic sentiments, and Blue Legend which is strongly tinged with autobiographical, also mythical elements, and these individual collections of poem, which are hailed as unprecedented even in the postwar world of poems, are wrapped up in a clear paragraph in Iemokgubi(features), aggregating all poetic experiments and messages he had pursued. Yang, Myung-mun's poetic world failed to attract a big public attention because he was locked up in a frame of a defector poet from North Korea, or ‘Anti-communist Poet’ all this while; however, this writing thinks that it is quite appropriate poet Yang should be placed in a more important post in our history of modern poems even only with ideological individuality and poetic experiments.
