A Study on the Spatial Organization of the Temporary Palace in the Joseon Dynasty - Focus on Temporary Palaces Recorded in Daedongjiji -

초록

Particularly in the 19th century, temporary palaces were built for various purposes and historical records on temporary palaces in this period are found in various geographic books and temporary palace drawings. Accordingly, this period is considered appropriate for examining the prototype of temporary palaces. The present study explained characteristics related to the spatial organization of temporary palaces according to the purpose of construction through analyzing old literature, old maps and drawings related to temporary palaces recorded in Daedongji-ji which is a geographic book from the 19th century. This study analyzed separately the spatial arrangement, the principles of spatial organization and the approaching type. The conclusions drawn from this study are as follows.
1. The spatial arrangement of study objective site, the temporary palaces was composed of the outer court from the approach to the outer gate(Woi-jo, 外朝), the ruling court that integrated the roles of the main hall and the royal council hall(Chi-jo, 治朝), the resting court centering on the bed room(Yeon-jo, 燕朝), and the rear garden for resting and training. In addition, depending on the purpose of each temporary palace, buildings were added, omitted or merged basically.
2. The temporary palace in the Joseon Dynasty were organized faithfully according to principles of ‘three gates and three courts(三門三朝) and the temporary palace in the Joseon dynasty were arranged follow a principle of ‘court in the front and bedroom in the back(前朝後寢).’3. The approaching type of study objective sites was analysed that the Approaching Route Types were Straight and Approaching Route Aspects matched with buildings in the all study objective sites except in case of Onyany temporary palace which had a Refraction Route Type. And especially, in case of Yusubu type, the beginning gate were characterized as through the second-story ru-mun(gate tower).
