구매기업의 공급기업 통합이 시장대응성에 미치는 효과: 내부통합과 가치일치성의 조절효과를 중심으로 (How does Supplier Integration Improve a Buyer’s Market Responsiveness? The Moderation Effects of the Buyer’s Internal Integration and Value Congruence)

초록

공급망의 시장대응성을 높이기 위해서 구매기업들은 주요 공급업체와의 전략적 혹은 운영적 프로세스 통합을 실시하고 있다. 선행연구들은 구매기업이 이러한 공급기업 통합을 통해 시장대응성, 납기, 품질, 유연성 등의 성과향상을 꾀할 수 있다고 주장한다. 그러나 일단의 선행 연구들은 공급기업 통합 활동이 성과에 미치는 효과가 항상 일관적이지는 않다는 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 이러한 맥락에서 구매기업의 내적 준비 요건을 공급기업 통합의 효과에 영향을 미치는 조절변수로 상정하고, 이의 효과를 살펴보고자 한다. 특히, 조직정보처리이론과 가치일치이론을 기반으로, 구매기업의 내부통합과 주요 공급업체와의 가치일치성 정도에 따라 공급기업 통합이 구매기업의 시장대응성에 미치는 효과가 달라진다고 제안한다. 본 연구는 구매기업의 공급기업 통합과 내부통합은 상호보완적이며, 두 기업 간 정보 처리 영역을 더욱 확장시켜서 구매기업이 시장변화에 더욱 능동적으로 대응할 수 있도록 돕는다고 제안한다. 또한, 두 기업 간 가치일치성은 공급기업과의 정보 공유에 있어 인식의 장애를 해소하여, 구매기업의 시장대응성을 더욱 증대시키며(2차 상호작용 효과), 공급기업을 통해 획득한 정보를 내부 정보와 통합하여 활용하기에 유리한 조직환경을 제공하여 공급기업 통합 활동의 효과를 더욱 상승시킨다(3차 상호작용). 본 연구는 중국(홍콩 포함), 한국, 대만, 미국의 1,229개 제조기업으로부터 설문을 통해 데이터를 수집했으며, 조절효과를 고려한 위계적 회귀분석을 통해 가설을 검증하였다. 분석 결과, 구매기업의 공급기업 통합, 내부통합, 가치일치성의 3차 상호작용이 유의하게 나타났다. 그에 따라 학술적, 실무적 시사점을 제시하고 향후 연구방향을 제시하였다.

영어초록

A buyer firm attempts to integrate strategic and operational processes with its key suppliers to improve overall supply chain responsiveness. Prior research confirms that supplier integration enables buying firms to improve its responsiveness, cost, quality, delivery, and flexibility. Yet some researchers have reported inconsistent performance effects of supplier integration activities, and explored potential moderators such as environmental uncertainties. This study examines the buyer’s internal readiness as moderating factors that could moderate the effect of supplier integration on the buyer’s responsiveness. Specifically, basing upon the organizational information processing theory and the value congruence theory, we propose that the effect of supplier integration on the buyer’s responsiveness depend upon the buyer’s internal process integration and value congruence with the key supplier. This study posits that the buyer’s supplier integration and internal integration complement each other and extend information processing between the buyer and the supplier, creating continuous information processing capability and generating synergistic performance effects. Moreover, the value congruence between the two firms will improve efficiency and reduce ambiguities in information sharing(two-way interaction), and provides a favorable cultural context in which the buyer firm assimilate and apply information attained through supplier integration(3-way interaction). Data are collected from over 1,229 manufacturing firms in China, Korea, Taiwan, and the United States, and the proposed hypotheses are tested using moderated regression methodology. This study empirically confirms that there is a significant three way interaction effect among supplier integration, internal integration, and value congruence on the buyer’s market responsiveness. Academic and managerial implications are discussed and future research directions are also presented.
