이사회 특성이 일자리제공형 사회적 기업의 성과에 미치는 영향: 제조업을 중심으로 (The Effects of the Board Characteristics on the Performance of Job-Providing Social Enterprises: Focusing on the Manufacturing Industry)

초록

본 연구는 이사회 특성이 일자리 제공형 사회적기업의 성과에 미치는 영향을 2019년 사회적기업 자율경영공시자료를 사용하여 분석하였다. 다만, 사회적기업의 성과는 산업별로 다양하게 나타날 수 있기 때문에 샘플 수를 가장 많이 확보할 수 있는 제조업을 대상으로 검증하였다. 일자리 제공형 사회적기업의 성과는 재무적 성과로서의 매출액과 일자리 제공형이라는 유형에 맞게 비재무적 성과로서 일자리 창출 수혜자수와 일자리 창출 금액으로 각각 측정하였다. 이사회 특성은 임원수, 근로자대표 비중, 지역사회 출신 비중으로 측정하여 성과와의 관계를 살펴보았다.
분석 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 이사회 임원수와 근로자대표 비중은 재무적 성과인 매출액과 유의한 정(+)의 관계를 맺는 것으로 나타났다. 한편 근로자대표 비중은 일자리 창출 수혜자수와 일자리 창출 금액과 유의한 정(+)의 관계를 갖는 것을 확인할 수 있었지만 지역사회 출신 비중과 사회적기업의 성과와는 유의한 관계가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 비록 제조업에 속한 일자리 제공형 사회적기업만을 대상으로 분석하였기 때문에 일반화하기는 어렵지만 이사회에 근로자대표를 참여시키고 비중을 높이는 것이 일자리 제공이라는 사회적 서비스를 제공해줄 뿐만 아니라 재무적 성과에도 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있다는 시사점을 제공해주고 있다.

영어초록

This study analyzed the impact of board characteristics on the performance of job-providing social enterprises using the 2019 social enterprise autonomous management disclosure data. However, because the performance of social enterprises can vary depending on the industry, the verification was conducted targeting the manufacturing industry, which can secure the largest number of samples. The performance of job-providing social enterprises was measured by sales as financial performance and the number of job creation beneficiaries and job creation amount as non-financial performance according to the type of job-providing. Board characteristics were measured by the number of executives, proportion of employee representatives, and proportion of members from the local community, and their relationship with performance was examined.
The analysis results are summarized as follows. The number of executives on the board of directors and the proportion of worker representatives were found to have a significant positive relationship with sales, which is a financial performance. Meanwhile, it was confirmed that the proportion of worker representatives had a significant positive relationship with the number of job creation beneficiaries and the amount of job creation, but there was no significant relationship between the proportion of workers from the local community and the performance of social enterprises. Although the results of this study are difficult to generalize because they were analyzed only for job-providing social enterprises in the manufacturing industry, participating and increasing the proportion of worker representatives on the board of directors not only provides social services such as job provision, but is also positive for financial performance.
