현대 패션 산업의 성장 동력의 관점에서 본 패션 테크 스타트업 (Fashion Tech Startups from the Perspective of the Growth Engine of the Contemporary Fashion Industry)

초록

디지털 전환의 시대에 패션 산업은 새로운 기술과 가치를 향해 나아가고 있으며 이에 패션 테크 스타트업의 활약이 새로운 성장 동력으로서 주목받는 상황이다. 패션 테크 스타트업은 패션의 전반과 테크놀로지를 결합한 범주 안에서 새로운 제품, 생산, 서비스를 창조하는 확장 지향의 신생 조직을 말한다. 코로나-19 이후 더욱 강화된 디지털 전환의 상황에서 기술 혁신의 패션 테크 스타트업의 성장은 더욱 의미가 있다.
이에 본 연구는 현대 패션 산업에 나타난 패션 테크 스타트업의 기술적 측면을 유형별로 분석하고 현대 패션 산업에서 패션 테크 스타트업이 가지는 의의를 도출하는데 목적을 두었다. 연구 방법은 우선 글로벌 스타트업 및 테크 전문사이트 자료에 근거해서 세계적으로 인정받으며 글로벌 패션 테크 어워드 및 각종 펀드의 혜택를 받은 패션 테크 스타트업들을 선별하였고 패션 전문 매거진의 기사문 분석을 통해 세부적 정보들을 추가 수집하여 분석하였다. 전 세계를 대상으로 혁신을 주도하는 글로벌 패션 테크 스타트업들의기술지향과 업적들을 분석하였을 때 3D 및 AR 기반의 제품 가상화 기술, AI 기반의 소비자 분석 기술, AI 및 로봇 기반의 물류 및 풀필먼트 인프라 기술 등 세 가지로 유형 분류가 가능하였다. 이 세 가지 유형은오늘날 패션 산업을 재형성하는 기술 트렌드 키워드인 AI, IoT, 데이터 분석, 모바일 상거래, VR, 3D 프린팅, 지속가능성 등과 연관이 깊다. 한편, 패션 테크 스타트업이 갖는 의의는 경제적 의의, 사회적 의의, 환경적 의의 등 세 가지로 구분하여 도출할 수 있었다. 현대 패션 산업의 관점에서 패션 테크 스타트업에 대한 포괄적 분석을 시도한 결과 오늘날 패션 테크 스타트업은 단순 이윤 추구를 넘어 기획-생산-유통 전반에 걸쳐 인간 및 사회의 긍정적 발전을 지향하며 발상하고 성장하는 것을 확인하였다. 패션 테크 스타트업의 성장은 현대 패션 산업 전체의 생태를 재편하고 있으며 패션 산업 관련 경제, 사회, 환경에 걸친 문제점들을 해결해 나가는 하나의 과정이 될 것이다.

영어초록

In the era of digital transformation, the fashion industry is moving toward new technologies and values, and the activities of fashion tech startups are attracting attention as new growth engines. Fashion tech startups are new, expansion-oriented organizations that create new products and services within a category that combines all aspects of fashion and technology. The growth of fashion tech startups is even more meaningful in the context of the digital transformation that has intensified since COVID-19. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the technical aspects of fashion tech startups in the contemporary fashion industry by type and to derive the significance of fashion tech startups in the contemporary fashion industry. First of all, this study selected fashion tech startups that are globally recognized and benefited from global fashion tech awards and various funds based on data from global startups and tech-specialized websites, and additionally collected and analyzed detailed information through article analysis of fashion magazines. When analyzing the technology orientation and achievements of global fashion tech startups that lead innovation around the world, three types of classification could be found: 3D & AR-based product virtualization technology, AI-based consumer analysis technology, and AI & robot-based logistics and fulfillment technology. On the other hand, the significance of fashion tech startups could be derived by dividing them into three categories: economic significance, social significance, and environmental significance. As a result of an attempt to comprehensively analyze fashion tech startups from the point of view of the contemporary fashion industry, it was confirmed that today's fashion tech startups go beyond the pursuit of simple profits and develop and grow for people and society. The growth of fashion tech startups is reshaping the entire ecology of the contemporary fashion industry and will be a process to solve economic, social and environmental problems related to the fashion industry.
