베트남어와 한국어의 성어(成語) 개념 비교 연구 (Comparison of concepts on ‘Thanh ngu (Vietnamese idiom, Phrase)’and ‘Seong-eo (Korean idiom, Phrase)’)

초록

베트남 언어문화 특성 중 하나는 일상의 언어활동에서 많은 성어(Thành ngữ)를 사용하고 있다는 사실이다. 이러한 성어는 베트남의 언어생활을 풍요하게 할 뿐 아니라, 언어문화의 품격을 높이는 역할을 하고 있다. 한편, 이러한 성어는 오랜 기간 동안 민중의 언어로 형성되어 온 까닭에 언어적 가치가 높을 뿐 아니라, 사회 문화적 가치가 매우 커서, 그것을 통해 베트남 민족의 의식을 탐구하는 중요한 도구가 될 수 있다. 이러한 언어문화의 특성은 한국에서도 별반 다르지 않아 일상의 언어생활 속에 많은 관용어와 사자성어가 사용되고 있다. 한편 한국과 베트남은 문화의 뿌리를 중국에 두고 있어서 언어문화와 민족의식에 있어서 많은 유사성을 가지고 있다. 따라서 두 나라 간 성어를 비교 분석하는 것은 두 나라의 언어문화와 민족의식을 비교하는 유효한 수단이 될 것이다.
하지만 성어는 그 자체로 여러 유사한 특수 어휘군, 즉 관용어, 숙어, 속담, 사자성어 등과 개념 및 범위에 있어서 혼용되는 사례가 발견되고 있으며, 특히 두 나라 간에는 성어에 대한 개념과 범위가 상이한 부분이 있어서, 성어를 통한 두 나라 간의 언어문화와 민족의식에 대한 비교 대조 연구를 진행하는 데에 곤란함이 있어 왔다. 따라서 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 두 나라의 특수 어휘군 간의 개념과 범위 정리 및 두 나라 간의 성어에 대한 개념과 범위를 정리하고 통일하여 후행되는 여러 비교 대조 연구에 초석을 마련할 필요성이 대두되었다.
본 논문은 베트남과 한국의 유사 특수 어휘군에 대한 사전적 의미, 그리고 두 나라 및 다른 나라 언어학자들의 상기 용어들에 대한 여러 이론들을 살펴서 두 나라의 성어에 대한 개념과 범위를 재정리하고 통일하는 것을 목적으로 유사 특수 어휘군에 대한 개념과 범위를 정리하여 후에 있을 여러 비교 대조 연구에 초석을 마련하고자 하였다.

영어초록

‘Thanh ngu (Vietnamese Idiom, Phrase)’ plays important role in Vietnamese language culture. It is the language which has been verbally communicated across generation and gradually formulated as a standardized current phrase. Given its background of Vietnamese history and culture in its formulation, Vietnamese people’s spirit is immersed in it. Therefore we can effectively understand Vietnamese culture, society and Vietnamese people’s spirit by analyzing it.
Meanwhile, ‘Seong-eo (Korean Idiom, Phrase)’ has similar background and function, as such, the study of comparing ‘Thanh Ngu’ with ‘Seong Eo’ can be an effective way to understand the similarities and differences in language, culture, and people’s spirit between two countries.
This article is aimed to define and unify the concept of ‘Thanh ngu’ and ‘Seong-eo’ in order to support the study of above mentioned comparison and so on. To reach this purpose, this article searched for various dictionaries and compared various theories of linguists of the two countries, which led to the following result; The concept of the word ‘Thanh ngu’ is well settled in and commonly used in Vietnamese daily language. Its most distinguishing semantic feature is that its meaning is different from the simple compound of the meaning of each component word. Its most distinguishing syntactic feature is that it has the fixed structure and sometimes irregularly grammatical sentence structure but is understandable between Vietnamese speaker and listener. Its metaphorical content, sentence composition, and rhythmic structure creates emotions and feelings to Vietnamese listener.
Meanwhile, ‘Thanh ngu’ is definitely differentiated from the word ‘Quan ngu (Vietnamese idiom, locution)’ in the feature that the meaning of ‘Quan ngu’ can be interpreted by the meaning of each component words. The purpose of using ‘Quan ngu’ is different from ‘Thanh ngu’.
‘Thanh ngu’ is differentiated from ‘Tuc ngu (Vietnamese proverb)’ in contents. ‘Tuc ngu’ is not phrase but passage.
The concept of the word ‘Seong-eo’ is defined in Korean dictionary, but not commonly used in Korean daily language, ‘Sa-ja-seong-eo (Idiom of 4 Chinese characters)’ and ‘Go-sa-seong-eo (Idiom of old story)’, the expressions of Chinese characters, are more commonly used instead. Furthermore, there are a few other words such as ‘Gwan-yong-eo’, ‘Sook-eo’ and so on-hereafter called ‘Gwan-yong-pyo-hyeon (Korean idiomatic expression)’ which have wider concept than ‘Seong-eo’.
There still exists confusion around the terms ‘Seong-eo’, ‘Sa-ja-seong-eo’, ‘Go-sa-seong-eo’, and ‘Gwan-yong-pyo-hyeon’ in studying the comparison of ‘Thanh ngu’ and ‘Seong-eo’ This article concludes that ‘Seong-eo’ should include not only ‘Sa-ja- seong-eo’ and ‘Go-sa-seong-eo’ but also ‘Gwan-yong-pyo-hyeon’ in Korean language, which bears features as ‘Thanh Ngu’ in studying the comparison of ‘Thanh ngu’ and ‘Seong-eo’.
