초록

This study aims to investigate similarities and differences between Korean and Japanese language pronunciation by analyzing suprasegmental units, like length of sound such as mora, foot, and pitch of sound such as accent, intonation among the pronunciation errors which are committed in learning Korean language by Japanese native speakers. The results of these analyses indicate the significance of learners’ perception and understanding of suprasegmental units from the early stage. Considering learners’ capability, however, suggestions on substantializing Korean language education for Japanese native speakers are made as follows: 1) For beginning level, it is necessary to lead learners to understand pitch pattern of Korean language accompanied by providing basic vocabulary. 2) For intermediate level and above, more emphasis on the perception of the different lengths of the pronunciation of Chinese character should be placed. 3) For advanced level, it is suggested that learners be encouraged to perceive nuance of the intonation of sentence-end.
