경상남도 남해안에 분포하는 수평 주상절리 형성 메커니즘 (Formation Mechanism of Horizontal Columnar Joints on South coast area of Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea)

초록

경상남도 남해안에는 수평으로 발달한 주상절리가 관찰된다. 본 연구에서는 수평 주상절리의 형태를 분석하고, 형성 기구를 해석한다. 연구 지역은 경상남도 고성군의 솔섬과 늑도, 통영시의 척포로와 정량동 이순신공원 입구 해안, 거제시 관포리 해안과 옥포동 팔랑포이다. 화성암의 야외 산상과 편광현미경에서 구성 광물과 조직을 관찰한 결과, 주상절리가 발달한 화성암은 고성군이 유문암, 통영시가 안산암, 거제시가 현무암이다.
고성군 솔섬에서 암맥의 폭이 150cm이며, 주상절리의 다각형이 균열이 명확하지 않으며, 암맥의 폭이 10m 이상인 늑도에서는 4~5각 형의 다각형이 균열이 분명하게 발달한다. 그러나 두 지역 모두 주상절리 기둥의 두께는 일정하지 않다.
안산암질 주상절리가 발달한 통영시 척포로 해안에서 암맥의 폭은 5m 정도이며 기둥의 직경은 20cm 비교적 정도로 일정하다. 정량동 안산암질 암맥은 관찰되는 넓이가 10m 정도이며, 직경이 20~30cm인 4~5각형이 뚜렷이 발달한다.
거제시의 관포리와 옥포동의 주상절리는 관찰되는 암맥의 두께만 30m 이상이며, 5~6각 형의 주상절리가 잘 발달한다. 거제시 주상절리의 직경은 다양하지만 가장 빈도수가 많은 것은 30~60cm 정도이다.
주상절리가 수평으로 발달하는 경우는 분지에 용암이 쌓이는 경우와 암맥일 때이다. 이 지역의 주상절리는 암맥에서 발달한 경우이다. 주상절리의 균열은 단층면과 직각 방향으로 발달하므로, 단층면부터 냉각이 시작되었음을 알 수 있다.
암맥의 폭이 수 십M 이상인 곳에서 주상절리는 다각형의 형태, 크기, 길이도 온전히 발달한다. 암맥의 폭이 작은 곳에서는 다각형의 발달이 불완전하거나 발달하더라도 다각형이 4∼5각형이 많다.
일반적으로 용암류에서 발달한 주상절리의 직경은 고온의 염기성암이 작고 저온의 산성암에서 크다. 그러나 이 지역에서 주상절리의 직경은 현무암(거제 지역)에서 크고 유문암(고성 지역)이 작다. 암맥의 관입 규모는 고성지역이 작고 거제 지역이 크다. 결과적으로 암맥의 주상절리는 화학성분보다는 관입체의 크기에 의존한다.
이 지역은 공룡발자국 화석으로 유명하며, 뛰어난 경관자원으로 이미 관광자원으로 활용도고 있다. 이 지역에서 산출되는 암맥의 주상절리는 교과서에 제시된 학습 요소에 포함되어 지질학습장으로서 가치가 높다.

영어초록

On the southern coast of Gyeongsangnam-do, horizontally developed columnar joints are observed. In this study, the shape of the horizontal columnar joint is analyzed and the formation mechanism is interpreted. The research areas are Solseom Island and Neokdo Island in Goseong-gun, Cheokpo-ro and the coast at the entrance of Yi Sun-sin Park in Tongyoung-city, Gwanpo-ri and Palangpo-port, of Okpo-dong in Geoje-city. As a result of field survey of igneous rocks and analysis of composition minerals and texture using the polarization microscope, the rocks with developed columnar joints are rhyolite in Goseong-gun, andesite in Tongyeong-city, and basalt in Geoje-city.
In Solseom Island, Goseong-gun, the width of the dyke is 150cm, the polygon of the columnar joint are not clear, and in the Neokdo Island where the width of the rock vein is more than 10m, 4∼5 angled polygons are clearly developed. However, in both dykes, the thickness of the columnar joint is not constant.
On the coast of Cheokpo-ro, Tongyeong-si, where andesite columnar joints are developed, the width of the dyke is about 5m, and the diameter of the column is relatively constant as about 20cm. The andesite dyke in Jeongyang-dong is about 10M in area observed, and 4-5 squares with a diameter of 20-30cm are clearly developed.
The columnar joints in Gwanpo-ri and Okpo-dong in Geoje-city have a thickness of more than 30M of the observed dykes, and 5-6 square columnar joints are well developed. The diameter of columnar joints in Geoje-city varies, but the most frequent is about 30 to 60cm.
Columnar joints develop horizontally when lava accumulates in the basin and in the dyke form. Columnar joint in this area is a case of development in the dyke. Since the crack in the columnar joint develops in a direction perpendicular to the fault plane, it can be seen that cooling began from the fault plane.
Where the width of the dyke is more than tens of meters, the shape, size, and length of the polygon are also fully developed. In places where the width of the dark vein is small, even if the development of the polygon is incomplete or developed, there are many 4 to 5 triangles.
In general, the diameter of columnar joints developed in lava flows is small in high-temperature basic rocks and large in low-temperature acidic rocks. However, in this area, the diameter of columnar joints is large in basalt (Geoje area) and rhyolite (Goseong area) is small. The intrusion scale of the dyke is small in the Goseong area and large in the Geoje area. As a result, columnar joints in dyke depend on the size of the intrusion body rather than the chemical composition.
This area is famous for fossils of dinosaur footprints and is already used as a tourism resource as an excellent landscape resource. Columnar joints in the dykes observed in this area are included in the learning elements presented in the textbook and are of high value as a geological learning center.
