김남조 중기시의 생태적 영성 고찰 (A Study on the Ecological Spirituality of Kim Nam-jo’s Mid-term Poetry)

초록

이 논의는 김남조 중기시에 나타난 생태적 영성 양상을 에코페미니즘의 관점에서 탐색하였다. 김남조의 시는 중기시로 접어들면서 에코페미니즘의 특성이 두드러지게 드러나게 된다. 시대적으로 군사독재와 산업화로 인한 폭력과 파괴 속에서 인간과 자연의 생명성이 위협을 받았으며, 전근 대적인 가부장제의 폭력으로 젠더 갈등의 문제가 본격화되었다. 이러한 시기에 김남조 중기시에는 1960년부터 1980년 초반까지 자연을 상징화시킨 여성적 주체가 등장하면서 에코페미니즘에서 강조하는 생태적 영성 양상이 드러난다.
김남조 중기시에 나타난 생태적 영성 양상은 첫째, 시에 드러난 자연이 인격적 주체로서 기능한다는 데 있다. 여성과 더불어 억압된 시대상을 보여주는 자연은, 김남조의 중기시에서 인격성이 부여되어 인격화된 존재로 표현된다. 자연물을 의인화하여 인간과 정동하며 연대를 도모하는 공동체의 모습으로 그려지거나, 화자의 존중과 존경의 대상으로 설정되어 인간과 동일시를 이루는 존재로 형상화되었다.
둘째, 김남조 중기시의 여성적 주체가 자연과 더불어 생명성을 회복하려는 의지를 보인다는 점에서 양자 간의 동질성이 구현되기도 한다. 자연 속에서 인간은 여성적 영성을 발휘함으로써 생태적 역동성이 발휘된다. 이때 생태적 역동성은 인간을 정체와 머묾의 상태에 안주하지 않고 성숙한 생태 자아로 나아가기 위한 움직임과 변화를 촉발시킨다. 여기에 자연물이 지닌 순수성과 무결함이 화자의 생태적 성숙에 추동력을 부여하며, 아기 이미지를 소환하여 ‘여성－자연－모성’이라는 구조로 움직이는 특성을 보여주었다.
셋째, 생태적 영성을 토대로 자연물과 동일시를 이룰 때, 여성적 주체의 주술적 통찰과 언어가 작동하는 흐름을 분석하였다. 김남조 중기시에서 대지를 포함한 자연물은 고요함과 침묵으로 일관되는 경향이 있는데, 그런 경우 고요와 침묵은 인간과 자연을 연결하는 하나의 주술적 언어로 기능한 다고 보았다. 이는 생명성을 지닌 대지와의 영적 교감할 때도 발견할 수 있다. 김남조가 시의 언어를 통해 실천하는 주술적 통찰은 그가 추구하는 사랑의 정신으로 이어져 자신만의 생태적 사유를 시 세계에 담아내고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.
김남조 중기시의 세계를 에코페미니즘의 관점으로 논의한 본 연구는 김남조 시 연구와 생태주의 연구에 대한 지평을 확장한다는 의의를 지닌다.
이로써 김남조 시 분석 및 문학생태학 담론 논의와 관련된 후속 연구에 기여하고자 한다.

영어초록

This discussion explores the ecological spirituality aspect in Kim Nam-jo’s mid-period poetry from the perspective of ecofeminism. As Kim Nam-jo’s poetry entered its mid-period, the characteristics of ecofeminism became more prominent. In the era, the vitality of humans and nature was threatened by violence and destruction caused by military dictatorship and industrialization, and the problem of gender conflict became serious due to the violence of pre-modern patriarchy. During this period, in Kim Nam-jo’s mid-period poetry, from the 1960s to the early 1980s, a feminine subject symbolizing nature appeared, revealing the ecological spirituality aspect emphasized by ecofeminism.
The ecological spirituality aspect that appears in Kim Nam-jo’s mid-period poetry is, first, that nature in the poem functions as a personal subject. Nature, which shows the oppressed era along with women, is expressed as a personified being in Kim Nam-jo’s mid-period poetry.
Natural objects are personified and depicted as a community that seeks solidarity and empathy with humans, or they are set as objects of respect and admiration by the speaker and are depicted as beings that are identified with humans.
Second, the homogeneity between the two is realized in that the feminine subject of Kim Nam-jo’s mid-period poetry shows the will to restore vitality together with nature. In nature, humans develop feminine spirituality and thus ecological dynamism is demonstrated. At this time, ecological dynamism triggers movement and change for humans to advance to a mature ecological self rather than settling for a state of stagnation and stay. Here, the purity and innocence of natural objects provide the driving force for the speaker’s ecological maturity, and by summoning the image of a baby, it shows the characteristic of moving in the structure of ‘woman-nature-motherhood.’ Third, when identifying with natural objects based on ecological spirituality, the flow of the feminine subject’s magical insight and language was analyzed. In Kim Nam-jo’s mid-period poetry, natural objects including the earth tend to be consistent with stillness and silence, and in such cases, stillness and silence function as a magical language that connects humans and nature. This can also be found when spiritually communicating with the earth that has life. It was confirmed that Kim Nam-jo’s magical insight that he practices through the language of poetry is connected to the spirit of love that he pursues, and that he embodies his own ecological thinking in his poetic world.
This study, which discusses the world of Kim Nam-jo’s mid-period poetry from the perspective of ecofeminism, has the significance of expanding the horizon of research on Kim Nam-jo’s poetry and ecological studies. In doing so, it aims to contribute to follow－up research related to the analysis of Kim Nam-jo’s poetry and the discussion of literary ecology discourse.
