초록

본 연구에서는 사료 안에서 콘텐츠를 발굴하는 방법 및 미술사학 관점에서의 시각문화 연구를 통해 콘텐츠를 재생산하고 연구자의 관점에서 스토리를 재창조하는것에 대해 논한다. 다시 말해 이미 알려져 있는 소재를 재발굴하고, 해당 소재의미술사 연구결과를 활용해 전시의 콘텐츠 구성을 시도하는 것을 목표로 한다.
연구 대상으로 선택한 김홍도는 한국의 미술사학 영역, 전시콘텐츠 영역에서 대중에게 가장 널리 알려져 있는 소재로, 대중들에게 상당히 친숙하지만 잦은 노출로인해 일정량의 피로도가 쌓여있는 인물콘텐츠다. 김홍도의 새로운 스토리를 개발하기 위해 본 연구는 그가 만들어낸 수많은 이미지 중 ‘승하도해(乘鰕渡海)’ 이미지를연구대상으로 삼았다. 승하도해는 유일하게 김홍도에게서만 발견된 이미지로, 이미상징성을 담은 이미지를 한 번 더 재해석한 일종의 변종적인 사례이다. 세부가 복잡하지 않은 비교적 단순한 이미지이기 때문에 도상의 변화에 개입한 변수가 적어연구하기 용이한 대상이지만, 도상해석이 이루어지지 않으면 그 의미를 쉽게 파악하기 어렵기 때문에 가장 단순한 소재인 동시에 많은 의미와 이야기를 단순함 속에숨긴 이미지이기도 하다.
승하도해 이미지에 대한 미술사적 연구를 선행한 결과, 승하도해 도상을 통해‘도교ㆍ불교의 혼융’과 ‘중국화풍 수용 및 재해석’이라는 두 가지 키워드를 도출할수 있었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 소재인 김홍도의 인생을 정리한 타임라인에서구체적인 세부 사건으로 들어가는 연역적 방식이 아닌 특정 작품 및 이미지의 특징에서 출발하여 그와 관련한 시대적, 문화적 사건까지 확장 및 재조명하는 귀납적 단계를 거친 스토리 구성을 시도하였다.
따라서 본 연구는 전시콘텐츠의 소재를 입체적인 시선으로 바라보면서 하나의이미지에게 개입하는 수많은 변수들의 역동적인 문화현상을 읽어내고 그것을 콘텐츠로 만들어내고자 한 점에서 의의를 갖는다.

영어초록

The present study aims to reproduce art content and discuss the rediscovery of stories from the perspective of a researcher. Historical data were used for art content development and visual culture was examined from the perspective of art history. This study rediscovers previously used art content and attempts to create story content using results of art history investigation of the theme in question.
Kim Hong-do, one of the most widely known figures in the area of Korean art history and exhibition, was selected as the study subject. The public is quite familiar with him; however, due to frequent public exposure, interest in him has considerably waned over the years . Considering this “Seunghadohae (乘鰕渡海)” was chosen as the subject image for this research from among many of his works, with the aim of creating a new story about painter Kim Hong-do. Seunghadohae presents an imagery found exclusively in the works of Kim Hong-do. It is an example of image variation that reinterprets an iconography. The image does not consist of complicated details and is relatively simple. A relatively small number of variables are applied to the rendering of the image. Hence, it is an easy subject in a sense. Conversely, it is not easy to understand the meaning without iconological interpretation. Iconography in art imagery often involves the simplest of objects but implies a spectrum of meanings and stories simultaneously.
A preliminary art history research was conducted on the imagery of Seunghadohae. Two key expressions, “integration of Taoism and Buddhism” and ”reception and reinterpretation of Chinese painting school,” were noted . In reference to these, the life of Kim Hong-do was organized into a timeline. A story was constructed through an inductive process in which the study departed from a specific work of art and the characteristics of its imagery to gradually broaden in scope and highlight related incidents and cultural events of the era, instead of a deductive approach that gradually narrows down to a specific incident.
This study approached materials such as exhibition contents from a multi-dimensional perspective. The present study is valuable as it provides an interpretation of a dynamic cultural phenomenon in which a number of variables are involved in a single imagery and attempts to recreate them as art content.
