초록

본 논문은 퍼스 기호학적 접근을 통해 21세기 문화와 자아와의 관계를 탐구하는 데목적을 둔다. 이 탐구는 문화적 경험을 구조화함으로써 주체가 “가능성의 드라마”를쓰는 기호의 과정이라고 이해할 수 있다. 달리 말해, 객관적 시각에서 해석해야 할 상징과 습관으로서의 문화는 주관적 시각에서 자아를 구성하기 때문에 문화를 해석하고이해하는 기호 과정은 자아-해석과 이해의 과정을 포함한다는 점을 함축한다. 이런 맥락에서 문화와 자아는 상징과 습관을 매개로 연결되어 변증법적 관계 안에서 서로 성장한다. 이 가설을 적용하여 본 논문은 “행위주체(agent)”로서의 자아의 개념과 기호 과정에서 해석체의 기능에 주목함으로써 21세기 문화 해석 모델로서의 대화적 세미오시스의 가능성을 탐색한다. 이를 위해 본 논문은 첫째, 지각 경험과 자아 개념에 기초해 규정되지 않은 경험의 대상으로서의 자질이 문화적으로 맥락화되는 과정을 퍼스의실재적 추상화 개념을 통해 살펴본다. 둘째, 퍼스의 기호 개념을 기호- 대상- 해석체의삼원적 관계에 기반을 둔 무한한 기호 과정에서 작동하는 감정적-활력적-논리적 해석체의 삼원적 관계에서 고찰하며, 문화적 맥락에서 리쾨르의 번역이론을 세미오시스개념과 연결하여 살펴보고, 해석 행위주체로서 기능하는 자아의 개념을 통해 문화공동체 구성원으로서의 자아와 타자의 관계를 검토한다. 이를 토대로 21세기 문화 해석모델로서 대화적 세미오시스의 가능성을 입증하고, 결론적으로 본 논문은 대화적 세미오시스 모델링을 통해 상호인정과 문화 돌봄에 기초한 문화적 자아들의 가치창조활동 자체가 목적이 되는 “목적론적”세미오시스의 유의미성을 보여준다.

영어초록

This paper aims to investigate the relationship between culture and the self in the 21st century from Peirce’s semiotic perspective. The inquiry will be understood as a semiotic process of writing “a drama of possibility” by structuring the experience of culture. In other words, it is a process of interpreting and understanding culture, which results in those applied to the self. This is possible because culture as symbol and habit which is to be interpreted from the objective perspective will form the self from the subjective perspective. Culture and the self are so connected by symbol and habit that they grow together in a reciprocal way based on a dialectic relation. Applying this hypothesis, the paper inquires into the possibility of dialogical semiosis as a model of interpretation in 21st century culture by focusing on the concept of the self as an “agent”and the function of interpretant in unlimited semiosis. To do this, first I look at the process of cultural contextualization of indeterminate quality as an object of experience based on perceptual experience and the concept of the self through Peirce’s concept of hypostatic abstraction. Second, I examine Peirce’s concept of sign which is characterized by triadic relation of sign-object-interpretant in the unlimited semiotic process in which the triadic relation of emotional-energetic-logical interpretant is operative.
Based on this, I consider connecting Ricoeur’s theory of translation with Peirce’s concept of semiosis in cultural context, thus looking at the relationship between the self and other as members of community through the self as interpreting agent. Based on this, I show the possibility of dialogical semiosis as a model of interpretation of culture and draw the conclusion that “teleological”semiosis has a significant effect on the semiotic activity of value-making on the virtue of culture care and mutual recognition by means of dialogical semiosis modeling, this process itself then becoming a purpose.
