『헤이케모노가타리』의 재생산 양상 고찰－슌칸과 기요모리 관련 작품을 중심으로－ (A study on a reproduction aspect of 『Heikemonogatari』 －Focusing on works of art related to Shunkan and Kiyomori－)

초록

고전문학은 여러 가지 양상으로 끊임없이 재생산 된다. 그 방법은 단순하기도 하지만, 여러 양상이 복합적으로 등장하기도 한다. 특히 실제 기록과 역사적 사건을 배경으로 하고 있는 경우 여러 가지 관점이 등장하면서 새로운 해석이 이루어지기도 한다. 본고에서는 13세기에 성립된 것으로 추정되는 『헤이케모노가타리』를 중심으로 하여 크게 두 가지 변용양상을 고찰해보았다. 한 가지는 역사서나 작품에 기술되지 않은 공백의 서사화이다. 『헤이케모노가타리』에 기술되어 있는 슌칸 설화는 슌칸이 역모에 참가하여 기카이가지마 섬으로 유배되고, 그 이후 홀로 죽음을 맞이하는 장면까지 기술되어 있다. 중세의 요고쿠 「슌칸」에서는 『헤이케모노가타리』에 충실한 재생산이 이루어지고, 이후 근세, 근대로 흘러갈수록 홀로 남겨진 슌칸은 섬에서 어떻게 살아왔는가에 대한 여러 가지 이야기들이 등장한다. 특히 근대 이후는 작가들의 가치관과 사상 등이 추가되기 시작하여 새로운 이야기들이 등장한다. 역사서와 『헤이케모노가타리』에는 기술되어 있지 않았던 공백을 활용하여 새로운 이야기를 창작하고 그와 함께 슌칸의 인물상 또한 변화한다. 다른 한 가지는 『헤이케모노가타리』속에서 악인이라는 프레임 속에 묶여 있던 다이라노 기요모리의 재해석이다. 『헤이케모노가타리』는 작품의 시작에서부터 기요모리를 악의 근원이며 멸망할 수밖에 없으며, 멸망해야하는 악인으로 규정하고 있다. 그러나 근대 이후 『헤이케모노가타리』 속 기요모리에 대한 새로운 해석들이 등장하면서 그를 중심으로 하는 많은 작품들이 등장한다. 야마다 비묘의 「다이라노 기요모리」에서는 기요모리의 청년기를 중심으로 그의 권력과 성장에 대한 욕망을 설명하고, 무샤노코지 사네아쓰의 「기요모리와 호토케고젠」에서 기요모리의 성격에 기오와 호토케를 통해서 해명하고 재구축한다.
본고에는 크게 두 가지 소재를 중심으로 몇 가지 작품의 예를 들어 고찰해 보았다. 고전문학의 재해석과 변용양상의 방법은 훨씬 복합적으로 등장한다. 시대를 초월해서 자주 차용되는 소재와 시류에 영향을 받고 더 이상 차용되지 않는 소재 속에는 작가와 독자의 변화 이외에도 많은 사회적인 요인들이 숨어 있다. 고전문학의 변용양상의 연구는 작품의 생명력과 함께 시대의 변화를 알 수 있으며, 또한 지금 21세기에 고전문학이 어떠한 역할을 하는지 함께 살펴볼 수 있다는 점에서 의의를 지닌다.

영어초록

Classical literature has continued to be reproduced to be various aspects. The methods are simple but several aspects also complexly appear. Especially, new interpretations have been done as various viewpoints newly appear in case of the stories with actual records and historic events. This paper studied two aspects of alternation focusing on 『Heikemonogatari』 to be established in the 13th century.
One is the narrativization of the blank that is not described in history books or works of art. The Shunkan tale describes Shunkan who was exiled to Gikaigazima Island by participating in a conspiracy and met his death alone after than. In medieval Yogyoku 「Shunkan」, 『Heikemonogatari』 was faithfully reproduced. And for Shunkan who was left alone in modern times and recent times, the several stories about how Shunkan has lived in the island has appeared. Especially after recent times, writers’ values and though have begun to be added. So in 「Shunkan」 by Gurada Hakujo, the writer alleviated his tragedy and sufferings through Shunkan. Akutagawa Ryûnosuke, the writer tells about the differences of the viewpoints between himself and other persons that he realized after traveling to China. They created new stories and changed Shunkan’s figure by utilizing the blank which was not described in the historic books and 『Heikemonogatari』. The other is reinterpretations of Tairano Kiyomori who are enclosed in a frame called a bad person in 『Heikemonogatari』. 『Heikemonogatari』 defines Kiyomori as the root of evil that cannot help being destroyed and must be destroyed from the beginning of the work of art. Considering the points that the Kiyomori-themed works of art never appeared before modern times. Kiyomori’s frame of the evil in 『Heikemonogatari』 can be found to be strong. As new interpretations about Kiyomori in 『Heikemonogatari』 appeared after modern times, there have been a lot of works of art that focus on him. 「Tairano Kiyomori」 by Yamada Bimyo explains his desires for power and growth focusing on his adolescence. 『Kiyomori and Hotokegozen」 by Mushakoji Saneatsu explains and rebuilds Kiyomori’s personality through Gio and Hotoke.
This paper studied several works of art as the examples focusing on two materials. The methods of the aspects of reinterpretations and alternation of classical literature more complexly appear. A lot of social factors with change of writers and readers are hidden in the materials that are frequently borrowed transcending time and the materials that are not influenced by trends and are not borrowed any more. The studies on alternation aspects of classical literature are meaningful in that the changing times with vitality of works of art can be found through them and its role in the 21st century can be examined.
