쉼터입소경험을 통해 본 가정폭력 피해여성의 억압과 의식변화과정 (The oppression and the process of conscious changes of female domestic violence victims through experiences at a group shelter)

초록

이 연구를 통해 나는 쉼터 입소경험을 토대로 쉼터 입소자들의 생활과 프로그램에서 드러난 가정폭력 피해여성의 억압과 의식변화를 밝히고자 하였다. 나는 3개월간의 쉼터생활과 프로그램에 동참하면서 쉼터의 생활과 프로그램을 참여관찰하고, 몇몇 사람들과 심층면담을 진행하였다. 또한 그 당시 나의 일기 형식의 관찰노트, 심층면담 기록지, 프로그램 녹취자료 등을 모아 질적 분석, 해석하였다.
가정폭력 피해여성들은 쉼터생활과 프로그램을 통해 적극적이고 긍정적인 삶의 태도를 상호 모델링함으로써 패배의식과 열등의식을 지양하는 의식변화를 드러내었다. 여성주의교육을 통해 자신의 타자성과 의존성을 발견함으로써 주체의식을 함양하며, 미술치료 프로그램을 통해 여성억압을 의식화하여 죽음의 본능을 생존본능으로 전환함으로써 삶의 의지를 일깨우고, 쉼터 캠프를 통해 진로계획을 구체화하고 행복추구권에 눈뜸으로써 새로운 진로의식과 희망을 고취하게 되었다.
나는 가정폭력 피해여성들이 고취한 존재의 용기와 삶의 희망에 주목함으로써 피학대여성 자신이 반성적 사고를 통해 가부장적 자본주의 사회에서 작동하고 있는 힘의 불균형과 모순들을 직시하고, 부당하게 강요된 사회문화적 담론을 거부함으로써 주체적이고 자율적인 존재로서 자신의 삶을 재구성해야 함을 제안하였다. 이 연구는 가정폭력 피해여성의 억압과 의식변화를 밝힘으로써 그들의 주체의식과 진로의식성숙을 통한 희망적 삶의 태도 함양의 가능성 및 대안을 탐색하는데 의의가 있다.

영어초록

The purpose of this research is to determine ‘the oppression and the process of conscious changes’ of female domestic violence victims in their lives and experiences at a group shelter. Throughout the three-month participatory experience at the group shelter, the researcher implemented qualitative research methodology, such as in-person participation in the victims’ daily routines and programs at the group shelter and face-to-face interview. More specifically, the daily records of observation, interview records, and transcripts of programs were analyzed and interpreted.
The researcher found that the victims have undergone the process of conscious changes from their sense of defeat or inferiority complex to positive and progressive attitudes toward their lives by modeling each other at the group shelter. In addition, they found out about the effects of dependency on their spouses through education related to feminism. Moreover, the victims developed subjectivity and expressed attitudes toward awakening the instinct for survival beyond the death instinct by participating in art therapy programs. Furthermore, they recognized career interests and their potentials, and started to take a step for specific career plans and to demonstrate the hopeful will to live through the group shelter camp that was specifically designed for them.
By concentrating on the victims’ courage to exist and hope in life, the researcher indicated that they encountered the power imbalance and contradictions in the patriarchal capitalism society. The researcher also suggested that they should develop independent and autonomous lives by excluding the forced sociocultural discourse. Therefore, the current research has a great significance in understanding the determination of the oppressed and their process on conscious change to rise above being female domestic violence victims.
