다문화가정 소아우울증 아동의 학교생활 적응에 관한 사례연구 (A Case Study Regarding the School Adjustment of Children with Depression from Multicultural Families)

초록

연구목적 본 연구는 다문화가정 소아우울증 아동의 학교생활 적응에 대한 연구로 아동의 자아인식과 주변 인식, 학교생활 적응 과정을 살펴보고자 하였다. 선행연구에서는 다문화 가정 아동들의 발달적 특성 및 학교생활 적응에 관한 통계적 경향성을 분석하는 데 그쳐, 이를 보완하고자 연구 대상자의 자아와 주변에 대한 인식 변화 및 학교생활 적응 변화상을 중심으로 연구하고자 하였다.
연구방법 참여관찰, 면담 및 수업 자료 분석 등 질적 연구 방법에 입각하여 다문화 가정 아동의 학교생활 적응 과정을 문장 및 사건 단위로 분석하고, 이를 범주화하여 다문화가정 소아우울증 아동의 학교생활에 적응하지 못한 원인을 찾아 이를 아동이 스스로 문제를 해결하는 데 초점을 맞추는 교사실천연구 방법을 적용하였다.
연구결과 연구대상 아동은 가정 내 문제와 차별 등으로 우울증상과 학교생활 적응에 어려움을 겪었지만, 교사의 지속적 관심과 주변의 지원을 통해 점차 적응해 나가는 모습을 보여주었다. 아동의 자아 인식과 주변 인식은 ‘고립과 단절에서 서서히 깨어남’, ‘대화를 통한 자기감정의 표현’, ‘소통을 통한 주변과의 갈등 극복’의 세 단계로 범주화하였고, 학교생활 적응 과정은 ‘적응의 애로와 자발적 노력을 통한 적응 과정’, ‘적응의 결실과 새로운 기대’의 두 단계로 범주화하였다.
결론 이러한 결과를 토대로, 다문화가정 아동의 문화적 다양성을 긍정적으로 활용하는 개별적인 교육환경 조성과 병원, 학교, 가정 간의 유기적인 협력이 필요함을 제안하였다.

영어초록

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the school adjustment of children with depression from multicultural families by examining their self-perception, perception of their surroundings, and the process of school adjustment. While previous studies have analyzed the developmental characteristics and school adjustment trends of children from multicultural families using statistical methods, this study intends to complement these studies by focusing on the changes in the research subjects' self-perception, perception of their surroundings, and school adjustment.
Methods: Based on qualitative research methods such as participant observation, interviews, and analysis of classroom materials, the process of school adjustment of children from multicultural families was analyzed at the sentence and event levels. By categorizing these analyses, the causes of school adjustment difficulties in children with depression from multicultural families were identified. A teacher-action research method was applied, focusing on enabling children to solve problems independently.
Results: The findings revealed that the participating children faced significant challenges in school adjustment due to familial stressors, discrimination, and depressive symptoms. Despite these adversities, the children demonstrated resilience and gradually adapted to their school environment with consistent support from teachers and peers. The children's self-perception and social perception evolved through three distinct stages: (1) a gradual shift from isolation to connection; (2) the development of selfexpression through communication; and (3) the resolution of interpersonal conflicts. The process of school adjustment was categorized into two stages: (1) a period of initial challenges followed by proactive efforts towards adaptation; and (2) the attainment of a sense of belonging and the formation of new aspirations.
Conclusion: Based on the study findings, it is imperative to create individualized educational environments that acknowledge and leverage the cultural diversity of children from multicultural families. Additionally, fostering collaborative partnerships between schools, healthcare providers, and families is crucial to support the holistic development of these children.
