유니버셜 디자인을 적용한 고령자 보행보조기 디자인에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Walking Aids for Older Adults Applied Universal Design)

초록

연구목적: 본 연구의 목적은 보행보조기 디자인 개발에 유니버셜 디자인 원칙과 디자인 씽킹 프로세스를 적용하여 고령자의 사용편의성이 향상된 보행보조기를 디자인 하는 것이다. 사용자 중심의 요구사항 및 제약조건 등을 고려한 보행보조기의 디자인 방향성에 대한 제안을 통해 디자인 발전 가능성을 모색하고자 한다.
연구방법: 본 연구는 2022년 10월부터 2022년 12월까지 70세 이상의 노인, 고령층과 관련된 간병인 및 사회복지사 5명을 대상으로 초점집단 인터뷰(FGI)를 진행하였다. 심층 인터뷰는 유니버셜 디자인 7원칙과 쉐도잉(Shadowing) 분석 기법을 바탕으로 인터뷰 질문지를 작성하여 분석하고, d.school의 디자인씽킹 5단계 모형을 활용한 문제해결 과정을 진행하였다.
연구결과: 연구참여자들의 실제 경험 및 사례를 기반으로 보행보조기에 유니버셜디자인 원칙을 적용하고, 디자인씽킹 프로세스 진행을 통한 ‘공감하기(Empathize)’, ‘문제 정의하기(Define)’, ‘아이디어 도출(Ideate)’, ‘시제품제작(Prototype)’, ‘평가(Test)’의 5가지 단계별 결론을 도출하여 보행보조기 개발에 따른 디자인 개선 방향을 제시하였다. 결과적으로 한 손 사용 시 부족한 안정성을 보완할 수 있는 기능, 양손 사용이 가능한 구조와 지지대 역할 등의 기능 개선사항이 우선순위로 분석되었으며, 이를 반영한 보행보조기 제품 디자인을 제안하였다.
결론: 본 연구를 통해 제시된 보행보조기 디자인은 초기 조사⋅분석하였던 고령자들의 요구사항과 희망점에 대한 요구사항이 충족되었다는 응답 및 긍정적인 피드백을 얻을 수 있었다. 본 연구결과로 사용편의성 향상과 거동의 불편함 해소는 물론, 이를 통한 자기 주도적 삶의 회복은 고령자들의 삶의 질 향상에 크게 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

영어초록

Objective : The purpose of this study is to design a walking aids with improved usability for the elderly by applying the universal design principles and design thinking process, to explore the possibility of the design development for the welfare goods through the suggestions on the direction of the walking aids design suitable for user-centered the requirements and the constraints etc.
Methods : From October 2022 to December 2022, a focus group interview (FGI) was conducted with five caregivers and social workers related to the elderly and over 70 years of age. The FGI included in-depth interviews on the 7 principles of universal design and shadowing analysis techniques. An interview questionnaire was prepared and analyzed, and a problem-solving process was conducted using the five-step design thinking model from d.school.
Results : During the study, the research team applied universal design principles to walking aids, drawing on the actual experiences and cases of research participants. Through the five stages of the design thinking process - Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test - the team derived design improvement directions based on the development of walking aids. Priorities for functional improvements were identified, including the ability to use the aids, a structure that can be used with both hands, and the role of support. Through this process, meaningful conclusions were drawn and design improvements were identified to better meet the needs of users.
Conclusion : The design of the walking aids presented in this study were obtained the responses and the positive feedback that the requirements for the elderly's needs and desired points, who were initially surveyed and analyzed, were met. As a result of this study, it is expected that the improvement of the convenience of use and ease of movement, as well as the recovery of self-directed life through this, will greatly contribute to the significant improvement of the quality of life of the elderly users.
