전문대학생의 전공 관련 기대­가치­비용 잠재프로파일에 따른 학업성취도와 학업지연행동의 차이 및 성별의 역할과 성장마인드셋의 영향 (Latent Profiles of College Students’ Majors’ Expectancy­Value­Cost: The Differences in Academic Achievement and Academic Procrastination Behavior and the Effect of Growth Mindset and the Role of Gende)

초록

본 연구는 전문대학생의 전공 관련 기대­가치­비용 잠재프로파일을 분류하고, 분류된 기대­가치­비용 잠재프로파일 유형에 따른 학업성취도와 학업지연행동의 차이 및 성별의 역할과 성장마인드셋의 영향을 검증하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 목적을 위해 대구경북지역 소재 전문대학교 학생을 대상으로 자기보고식 설문방식을 통해 총 776명의 자료를 수집하고 잠재프로파일 분석(LPA)과 3단계 접근방식인 R3STEP, DU3STEP으로 자료를 분석하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 전공 관련 기대­가치­비용 잠재프로파일은 ‘중기대가치비용’, ‘고기대가치비용’, ‘고기대가치­저비용’, ‘저기대가치­고비용’의 4가지 유형으로 분류되었다. 둘째, 잠재프로파일에 따른 학업성취도와 학업지연행동의 차이가 있었으며 ‘고기대가치­저비용’이 전공 학업상황에 가장 높은 적응을 보인 반면, ‘저기대가치­고비용’은 가장 낮은 적응을 보였다. 셋째, 성별과 성장마인드셋은 잠재프로파일 분류를 예측하는 것으로 확인되었다. 본 연구는 전문대학생의 전공 관련 기대­가치­비용 각각의 하위요인들을 세부적으로 구분하여 프로파일링한 연구라는 점에서 의의가 있다. 또한 전문대학생의 전공 성취동기 유형에 따라 학업성취도와 학업지연행동이 달라질 수 있고 성별과 성장마인드셋이 전공 성취동기 유형을 예측하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.
교육적 함의 : 본 연구는 전문대학생들의 전공 교육에서의 성과를 위해서 전공에 대한 기대와 가치를 발견하고 수업에서의 비용을 낮게 인식하여 학업적인 요구에 잘 적응할 수 있도록 지원할 필요가 있음을 보여주었다. 이는 대학에서 전공 성취동기에 대한 종합적인 이해를 통해 학습자 개별 특성에 적합한 교육적 처방을 하는 것이 필요함을 보여주며 이를 바탕으로 향후 교육에서 학습 지원 시 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

영어초록

This study aimed to classify college students based on their majors’ expectancy­value­cost profiles and examine the differences in academic achievement and academic procrastination behavior among the identified profiles. The research also investigated the role of gender and the growth mindset influence. To achieve the research objectives, the study collected data from 776 college students in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region via a self-reported survey. The data were analyzed using latent profile analysis(LPA), and a 3-step approach, including R3STEP and DU3STEP, was applied. Results showed that the students’ majors’ expectancy­value­cost profiles could be classified into four types: medium expectancy­value­cost, high expectancy­value­cost, high expectancy­value­low cost, and low expectancy­value­high cost. Significant differences in academic achievement and procrastination behavior were observed based on the latent profiles. The “high expectancy­value­low cost” profile showed the highest adaptation to the academic situation, whereas the “low expectancy­value­high cost” profile exhibited the lowest adaptation. Gender and growth mindset predicted latent profile classification. Hence, this study’s significance is the ability to profile in detail the subfactors of college majors’ expectancy­value­cost. Furthermore, the research demonstrates that academic achievement and academic procrastination behavior can vary depending on students’ motivation type as related to their major and that gender and growth mindset can predict motivation types.
Educational Impact and Implications : This study highlights the importance of identifying students' expectations and values regarding their majors to support them in adapting well to academic demands through the perception of low coursework costs. Moreover, the research underscores the need to comprehensively understand students’ motivation to make major achievements in college, as a tool for individually tailoring educational interventions to suit learners. It is therefore expected that this knowledge will be utilized to provide effective learning support in future educational settings.
