A Study on the Traditional-Experience Village Landscape Design Development and the Application for Green Landscape Formation* - The Case of Namsa-Yedamchon, Sancheong-gun -

초록

This study aims at landscape design developments and their application of Namsa-Yedamchon, located in Namsari, Dansung-myeon, Sancheong-gun in Gyeongsangnam-do, as Namsa-Yedamchon is a traditional cultural village with well-preserved traditional rural landscape. Traditional walls and picturesque Hanoks have been preserved in good forms without much damage. To be sufficiently comparable to Mt. Niqiu and Sishui where Confucius was born, this village is well-known for the place where scholarly attainments have been pursued and highly valued. Based upon the Feng Shui Theory, the geomantic principles, the village is featured in that the Dangsan looks like head of a male dragon and the Mt. Niqiu can be a head of a female dragon. In addition, it seems that the two are holding each other's heads and tails, so they become the Double Dragon. Although a distant view of the village is fine, the inside of Hanoks hid by some parts of stone walls are being used only vegetable gardens or left uncared as unused areas. Therefore damaged scenes are shown because of inappropriate maintenance for the stone walls. Moreover, a lack of experiential spaces available for activities makes the village inactive. Therefore, the study is to develop the green-landscape design for Namsa-Yedamchon to be a traditional experiential village, so as to maintain its own traditional elements, and also to have various experiential activities and environmental facilities proper for a traditional village. Design codes unifying space elements in wholeness to form green landscape were discovered and applied. As for space designs of regional characteristics, unification of various elements instead of individual designs of particular elements is important. To achieve the unification, design codes that are specific rules weaving individual elements are required.
The significance of this study is on presenting alternative methods for space design of traditional experiential villages in order to shape green landscape, after unearthing and establishing design codes of traditional elements of Namsa-Yedamchon and then applying them to developing experiential spaces or designing environmental facilities, in order to shape green landscape. While developing experiential spaces and environmental facilities, they were designed, conforming to Yedamchon design codes, based on scenic, environmental and functional aspects. In water spaces around Namsa Stream, a natural-stream shape was produced, and shoals and swamps were made in the aim that biological diversity will be created and connection of water and woods will be available. To enhance water-purification control easy, (normal) reeds, Juls and ditch reed were planted. In addition, around Yongsobawi, the old irrigation channel was renovated and a footpath was created and a circulating way between Namsacheon and cultural amenities of Yedamchon. The formation of green landscape should be though the consideration into rural scenic aspects. In the process, mutual meetings and agreements of villagers are essential. The formation of green landscape in Namsa-Yedamchon aims at the contribution both to preservation of regional landscape and to cultural cultivation for visitors and villagers.
