『회남자(淮南子)』의 음양오행 사상과 명리학의 연관성 고찰 (A Study on correlation between the Thought of Yin-yang & Five Elements of Huainanzi and Myeongli(命理學))

초록

『회남자』는 중국 한대(漢代) 초기 회남왕(淮南王) 유안(劉安)이 한무제(漢武帝)에게 헌상한 책으로서, 제자백가 사상이 집결된 백과사전적인 작품이다.
『회남자』의 사상 배경은 황로학(黃老學)이고, 황로학의 중심사상은 황제(黃帝)사상과 노자(老子)사상이다. 그러나 황로사상의 저변에는 기화우주론(氣化宇宙論)·천인감응론(天人感應論)과 더불어 음양오행(陰陽五行) 사상이 강하게 내재되어 있다. 전국 말기부터 성행하던 음양오행 사상이 한대 초기에는 정치·사회·경제 전반에 영향을 미쳤고, 당시의 시대적 배경과 사상적 배경이 음양오행 사상을 발전할 수 있게 하였다.
『회남자』에 내재된 음양오행 관념은 이미 성숙하여 자연현상으로서의 음양오행의 범주를 넘어 정령(政令)이나 제도(制度) 등을 시행할 때 통치 활동의 방편으로서 활용되었고, 우주간의 사물을 분류하고 구분할 때 유비체계(類比體系)로서의 역할을 담당했다.
사주명리(四柱命理)가 성립하기 위해서는 사주팔자(四柱八字)를 조립하는 데 필요한 기본 요건이 먼저 준비되어야 한다. 『회남자』에서 천간(天干)·지지(地支)가 오행에 배속됨으로써 간지(干支)가 술수적(術數的)인 의미를 지니게 되었고, 육십갑자(六十甲子) 간지력(干支曆)의 확립으로 사주팔자를 정립할 수 있었다. 그리고 한 해의 시작이 되고 명조(命造) 구성의 기준이 되는 인월세수(寅月歲首)가 정해짐에 따라 사주팔자를 성립하는 바탕이 마련되었고, 24절기(節氣)의 완성으로 월주(月柱)를 세우고 조후(調候)를 판단하는 기준이 마련되어 사주명리의 구성 기반이 확립되었다.
그리고 음양오행 이론이 정립되어야 올바른 간명(看命)을 할 수 있다.『회남자』에서 오행의 상생(相生)·상극(相剋) 관계가 완성되었고, 현대명리학과 상이한 부분이 다소 있으나 지지(地支)의 합충(合沖) 관계가 언급되었으며, 왕상휴수사(旺相休囚死)와 12운성법(運星法)을 통하여 오행의 성쇠(盛衰)를 논하였고, 간지의 생극(生剋) 관계에서 오행의 길흉(吉凶) 등을 설명함으로써 제반 음양오행 이론이 『회남자』에서 만들어져 산명(算命)의 기틀이 성립되었다.
『회남자』의 음양오행 이론이 현대명리학의 이론과 대부분 일치한다. 그러나 육합(六合) 부분에서 인신(寅申)·묘유(卯酉)·진술(辰戌)·사해(巳亥)·자오(子午)·축미(丑未)를 『회남자』에서는 육합이라 칭하고 현대명리학에서는 육충(六沖)이라 칭한다. 그리고 지지(地支) 삼합(三合) 이론에서 현대명리학에서 사용하지 않는 오술인(午戌寅) 합토(合土)를 첨입하였는데, 이론적으로도 다른 삼합과 모순이 있다. 이는 한대 초기 토를 중시하는 오덕종시설(五德終始說)의 영향을 받은 것이라 생각된다.
