초록

반계는 ‘王道의 몰락’이라는 엄중한 현실상황을 철저히 인식하고 17-18세기조선이라는 사회경제적 한계 속에서 실현가능한 방향으로 王道를 재건하기 위한 설계에 매진하였다. ‘王道의 몰락’이란 ‘敬’의 마음가짐을 잃어버리면서 井田 制가 실시되지 못하고 孝悌忠信의 교육이 이루어지지 못하고 있는 현실에 대한진단이다. 반계는 이 ‘경’의 의미를 人心道心과 학교제도에 대한 논의에서 중요하게 부각시켰다. 반계의 경우 처음에 도심과 인심을 대립적으로 이해하는 관점에 서서 도심과 인심을 공존시키는 처리 방식을 부정하였지만 ‘實理’에 대한 인식을 통해서 도심과 인심의 위계적 공존을 부각시키는 방향으로 선회하였다. ‘實 理’란 氣와 공존하면서도 세밀한 내용을 갖추고 확고한 주재력을 가진 실재하는理를 말한다. 반계는 理의 실재성이야말로 氣만으로 설명할 수 없는 도덕적 심리현상의 발생을 설명할 수 있다고 보았다. 사람은 어떤 상황을 만났을 때 氣에기반을 둔 人心이 일어나는 동시에 理를 바탕으로 한 道心이 자연스럽게 발생한다는 것이다. 이 道心을 강화시킴으로써 人心마저 도덕적으로 변화시키는 데 필요한 노력들의 총칭이 ‘敬’이다. 반계는 교육제도를 마을공동체의 생활 속에서‘敬’의 도덕주체성을 확립하고 그 바탕 위에 공교육을 도덕성 개발 중심으로 체계화시키는 방향으로 설계하였다. 周나라의 王道가 ‘敬’의 마음가짐을 상실함으로서 몰락한 것을 거울로 삼아, 반계는 자신이 세운 王道가 교육을 통해 영구히정상적으로 운영될 수 있기를 희망하였다.

영어초록

Bangye thoroughly recognized the severe reality of the ‘decline of Kingly Way’ and focused on designing to rebuild Kingly Way in a feasible direction in the socio-economic limitations of Joseon in the 17th and 18th centuries. The decline of the Kingly Way is a diagnosis of the reality of losing the mentality of ‘cautious’, the inability to implement the well field system, and the inability to achieve filial piety and loyalty education. Bangye emphasized the significance of this ‘circumspect’ in his discussion of the Human Mind and the Moral Mind and school system. Taking anti government as an example, initially from the perspective of opposing understanding of the city center and the people's hearts, the approach of coexistence between the city center and the people's hearts was denied. At first, Bangye standing in the perspective of opposing understanding of the Human Mind and the Moral Mind, denying the way in which the Human Mind and the Moral Mind coexist, but later turned to highlight the hierarchical coexistence of the Human Mind and the Moral Mind through the perception of ‘substantial Principle’. Substantial principle refers to existence that coexists with Qi, has detailed content, and has firm dominance. Bangye believed that the reality of Principle can only explain the occurrence of moral psychological phenomena that cannot be explained by Qi. For a certain object, while generating the Human Mind based on Qi, it also naturally generates the Moral Mind based on Principle, that is, the efforts required to strengthen conscience and make the Moral Mind changes in the Human Mind are collectively referred to as ‘circumspect’. Bangye designed the education system in the direction of establishing the moral subjectivity of ‘circumspect’ in the life of the village community and systematizing public education centered on moral development. Taking the decline of the Zhou Dynasty's Kingly Way due to the loss of ‘circumspect’ as a lesson, Bangye hopes that the Kingly Way he established can operate permanently and normally through education.
