대학생의 인터넷 활용이 정치의식에 미치는 영향 (A Study on the Influence of University Students' Internet Use on Political Consciousness)

초록

본 연구의 목적은 대학생의 주요 커뮤니케이션 매체인 인터넷 활용과 정치의식 간의 관계성을 탐색하고자 함에 있다. 이를 위한 연구방법으로는 인터넷 활용과 정치의식 간의 관계를 구조모형을 통해 검증하였다. 독립변인인 인터넷 활용은 활용동기, 활용내용의 2개 하위요인으로, 종속변인인 정치의식은 정치지식과 관심, 정치신뢰감, 정치참여의 3개 하위요인으로 측정하였으며 자료수집은 675명의 대학생을 대상으로 이루어졌다. 연구 결과, 인터 넷 활용동기와 활용내용, 정치의식 간에는 유의미한 상관관계가 있었다. 인터넷 활용동기와 내용은 정치의식에 정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났으며, 상대적으로 인터넷 활용내용 보다는 활용동기가 정치의식에 미치는 영향 이 뚜렷하였다. 구체적으로 인터넷 활용동기와 활용내용이 정치의식 하위요인인 정치지식과 관심에 미치는 영향은 통계적으로 유의미하였다. 본 연구를 통해 인터넷 활용 자체가 대학생의 정치의식 형성에 영향을 미치며, 인터넷 활용동기와 내용이 대학생의 정치의식 하위요인에 미치는 영향이 다르게 나타남을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 대학생의 정치의식 함양을 위해서는 구체적이고 목적 지향적인 활용동기를 중심으로 다양한 내용을 융합한 인터넷 활용 교육이 이루어질 필요성이 있다. 특히 인터넷 활용동기가 정치의식에 미치는 영향이 컸으므로 ‘인터넷 활용 교육’ 이라는 외재적 동기를 통해 ‘정치 관심 및 자발적 정치참여’라는 내재적 동기를 유발할 수 있는 교육시스템이 마련되어야 한다. 본 연구의 시사점으로 기술 중심의 인터넷 활용 교육에서 진일보하여 대학생의 정치의식 함양을 위해서는 교류 활동, 정보검색 및 뉴스 시청 등의 구체적이고 목적 지향적인 활용동기를 중심으로 인터넷을 활용한 디지털 리터러시 교육 등이 교육과정 내에서 이루어질 필요성이 있음을 제안하고자 한다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between the use of the Internet, the main communication medium of college students, and political consciousness. As a research method for this, the relationship between Internet use and political consciousness was verified through a structural model. Internet use, an independent varia- ble, was measured as two sub-factors of use motivation and content, and political consciousness, a dependent varia- ble, was measured as three sub-factors: political knowledge and interest, political trust, and political participation, and data collection was conducted on 675 college students. As a result of the study, there was a significant correla- tion between Internet use motivation, content, and political consciousness. It was found that the motivation and content of using the Internet had a positive effect on political consciousness, and the motivation for use had a relatively clear effect on political consciousness rather than the content of using the Internet. Specifically, the effect of Internet use motivation and content on political knowledge and interest, which are sub-factors of political con- sciousness, was statistically significant. Through this study, it was found that the use of the Internet itself affects the formation of political consciousness of college students, and the influence of Internet use motivation and content on the sub-factors of political consciousness of college students was different. Therefore, in order to cultivate politi- cal consciousness of college students, it is necessary to provide education on the use of the Internet that combines various contents, focusing on specific and purpose-oriented motives for use. In addition, since the motivation for using the Internet had a great influence on political consciousness, an education system that can induce the intrinsic motivation of "political interest and voluntary political participation" through the external motivation of "education using the Internet" should be prepared. As an implication of this study, I would like to suggest that digital literacy education using the Internet needs to be conducted within the curriculum, focusing on specific and purpose-oriented motives for using the Internet, such as exchange activities, information search, and news viewing, in order to culti- vate political consciousness of college students.
