중국 태양숭배사상의 시각적 표현연구 새형상을 중심으로 (A Study on the Visual Expression of China with Respect to Sun Worship: Focused on Bird Images)

초록

연구배경 세계적으로 거의 모든 민족이 태양을 숭배하는 신앙을 가지고 있었다. 중국은 태양숭배의 오대발원지 중 하나이고, 태양숭배가 중국 문화를 형성하는데 중요한 영향을 끼쳤다.
그 중‘원형(태양의 상징)’과‘새’의 결합은 매우 중요한 표현방식 중 하나이다. ‘태양새’는 원시인류에 의해 태양의 화신(化身), 소환자, 상징물 등의 신분으로 변화하였다. 이를 통해 우리는‘원형(태양의 상징)’과‘새’가 떼래야 뗄 수 없는 밀접한 관계라는 것을 알 수 있다. 중국의 현대디자인의 패러다임에서 볼 수 있듯이‘태양새’의 문화적 의미와 신미(审美)적 가치는 오늘날까지 끊임없이 전해져 내려왔으며, ‘태양새’의 형상은 중국의 현대디자인영역에서도 여전히 중요한 디자인문화원소로서 응용되고 있다. 본 논문은 중국의 태양숭배현상을 시각적으로 표출한 새형상에 관한 연구를 통해 중국의 문화와 정신이 배어있는 중국만의 특성을 나타낼 수 있는 디자인 방향을 연구하는데 단초를 제공하고자 한다.
연구방법 본 논문은 시각적 관점에서 태양숭배사상을 분석하는 것으로, 각종 문헌서적, 신화전설과 도자기, 석기(石器), 청동기, 칠기(漆器), 금·은(金·銀)기, 직수(織繡), 벽화건축물 등에나타난 태양숭배사상을 표현한 새형상의 상징적 의미를 찾아내어 이를 귀납적 방법으로 정리하고, 각 시기별 새형상의 종류와 조형에 대해 연구·분석하고자 한다.
연구결과 태양새 조형형태 분석을 통해 시대의 발전변화에 따라 태양새의 조형형태도 끝임없이 변화하고 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 새형태의 변화는 간단한 조형에서 복잡한 조형으로, 추상적이고 불규칙적인 상징성 토템기호에서 점차 구체적, 생동적, 규칙적 형상으로 나타났다. 태양새의 종류를 분류해 보면 시대, 문화, 씨족(氏族) 등 사회 환경적 차이와 변화발전에 따라 크게 두 가지로 나눌 수 있는데, 현실의 새와 상상의 새로 분류된다. 현실중의 새는타조, 참새, 황새, 닭, 제비, 까마귀, 학, 효(鴞), 매, 홍(鴻)이 있다. 상상의 새에는 삼족오, 란(鸞), 주작(朱雀), 봉(鳳)이 있다. 이와 같이 태양새의 조형분석과 종류분석은 매우 큰 의미를가지며 현대디자인에의 활용근거를 마련해줄 것이다. 현대디자인에서 각종 태양새 형상은중요한 시각적 요소로서 간결하게 도안화되어 각종 영역의 심볼마크(Symbol Mark)로 사용되며 길상(吉祥)의 의미로 그 정신과 영혼을 응집시켰다.
결론 태양새 형상은 전 중국역사문명의 발전을 관류하고 있으며 시대의 변화와 발전에 따라태양새 형상의 응용 영역 또한 바뀌고 있다. 오늘날까지 태양새 형상은 독특한 예술적 매력과길상의 의미로 여전히 중국 현대 디자인에 중요한 영향을 미치고 있다. 중국 현대디자인의 풍부한 민족성, 문화성, 상징성을 더하였고 중국 현대디자인에 지혜와 영혼을 불어넣었다. 중국 디자인 미래 발전의 길에서 태양새 형상은 표현형식과 내포된 의미가 완벽하게 융합해 중국 미래 디자인의 발전방향을 이끌 것이며 중국의 정신과 문화의 정수가 될 것이라 믿는다.

영어초록

Background Globally, almost all nations have engaged in sun worship. China is oneof the five birthplace of sun worship and such worship has had a significant effect on theformation of Chinese culture. Among others, the combination of “a circle (the symbolof the sun)”and “a bird” is very important way of expressing sun worship. The positionsof the "sun god bird" changed into an incarnation of the sun, a summoner, and asymbol. The above shows that “an archetype (the symbol of the sun)” and “a bird” havean inseparable, close relationship. As the paradigm of modern Chinese design shows,the cultural meanings and aesthetic values of the “sun god bird” have been incessantlyhanded down until today, and the images of the “sun god bird” are still applied asa crucial element of design culture in the modern Chinese design area as well. Thispaper aims to provide a clue in studying the design direction which may show uniquecharacteristics of China containing the nation's culture and spirit through a study of birdimages visually expressing the nation's sun worship phenomenon.
Methods The research methods of this article aim to elaborate the sun worship froma visual aspect. The organization and generalization of the myths and legends, as wellas ceramics, stone implements, lacquer, gold and silver-ware, embroidery (clothing),and mural-building materials were performed following literature review. The researchand the analysis of the appearance of the sun worship of bird images and categories ofdifferent periods were conducted.
Results The formative forms analysis of the sun god bird showed that formative formsof the sun god bird incessantly changed according to the development and changes thatoccurred in each era. Changes in the form of the sun god bird gradually occurred fromsimple forms to complex forms, and from abstract, irregular symbolic totem signals tospecific, dynamic, and regular images. To classify the sun god birds were divided intotwo types--real birds and imaginative birds--according to socio-environmental differencessuch as era, culture, and clan and changes and development. Real birds consisted of theostrich, sparrow, stork, chicken, swallow, crow, crane, owl (hyo), hawk, and wild goose(hong). Imaginative birds consisted of samjogo (three-legged crow), lan, jujak, and bong.
Such formative and type analyses of sun god birds are very meaningful and will provide aground for use in modern design. In modern design, all kinds of sun god bird images aremade into simple designs as an important visual element and used as symbol marks invarious areas; the spirit and soul are condensed in the images with the meaning of goodauspices.
Conclusion The images of sun god birds flow through the development of the entireChinese history, and the application of sun god bird images also has changed accordingto changes during different eras and development. The images of sunbirds have added abundant ethnicity, culture,and symbolism to modern Chinese design and imbued it with wisdom and soul. Inthe path of the future development of Chinese design, expression styles and impliedmeanings of the images of sun god birds are perfectly united to lead the developmentaldirection of future Chinese design and will be the essence of Chinese spirit and culture.
