초록

본 논문의 목적은 홍익인간의 기원과 전개 과정, 그리고 미래의 바람직한 홍익인간상에 대해 살펴보는 데 있다. 인간은 태초로 접하는 자연환경의 변화를 극복하고 살아남기 위해 노력해야만 했다. 그 과정에서 환인은 변화를 면밀히 관찰하고 통찰하면서 자연의 섭리와 이치를 깨우쳤을 뿐만 아니라 그 내용을 삶의 지혜로 활용할 수 있도록 말씀으로 전하였다.
배달국이 개국되던 시기에는 백성들이 진정한 삶의 지표를 잃어버리고 서로의 이해득실에 따라 이합집산(離合集散)하며 다투었다. 이 시기에 환웅은 문자를 만들도록 독려하여 녹도문(鹿圖文)을 발명하였고, 천부경과 삼일신고를 해석하여 기록으로 남겼다. 이울러 농사·생명·질병·형벌·선악 같은 인간세상의 360여 사를 주관하며 가르침을 베풀었다.
단군의 고조선시대에는 환인시대로부터 전해져 온 환국오훈(桓國五訓)의 가르침이 배달시대와 고조선시대로 이어졌다. 특히 단군은 천부경과 삼일신고를 강론했고, 젊은이들에게 책읽기, 활쏘기, 말 타기, 예절, 음악, 기수련 같은 육예(六藝)를 가르쳤으며, 이들을 ‘국자랑(國子郞)’이라 했다. 그들은 몸과 마음을 다스려 ‘우아일체(宇我一體)’를 이루려고 노력했다. 이런 고조선은 2,000여 년의 역사를 유지했다.
다행히 ‘국자랑’에게 가르쳤던 오상(五常)과 육예(六藝)와 환국오훈의 낭가정신(郎家精神)은 부여를 거쳐 삼국시대까지 이어졌다. 고구려에서는 이들을 조의선인(皂衣仙人)이라했고, 신라에선 이들을 화랑(花郞)이라 하였고, 고려에서는 국자랑이라고 하였다. 아쉽게도 이러한 가르침은 고려가 멸망하면서 그 맥이 끊어졌다.
역동하는 역사의 흐름 속에서 끊일 듯 끊이지 않고 위기의 순간마다 우리민족을 구원했던 힘은 바로 널리 인간을 유익하게 한다는 ‘홍익인간 정신’과 내 나라는 내가 지킨다는 ‘호국정신’이었다. 홍익인간은 서로를 도와 한 사람도 섭섭하고 답답하게 하지 않는다는 것이다. 이러한 정신은 심신(心身)의 균형과 조화를 이루어 건강할 때 항심을 유지하며 유익하게 활동할 수 있는 근원이 된다. 이러한 유익한 활동능력의 근본배경은 결국 인간의 뇌에 달려있다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 인간의 건강과 능력을 정확히 파악하고, 선도수련의 필요성이 요구된다 할 것이다.

This article will cover the origin and development of the Hongik Ingan, ‘the greatest service for the benefit of humanity’, and its ideal image for the future. Human beings had to strive to survive the changes in the natural environment that they encountered from the beginning. In the process, Hwanin by closely observing and taking insight into its changes had enlightened the providence and the order of nature, and cultivated his people to apply his enlightment as a wisdom of life.
During the time when the Baedal-guk was established, people were confused and did not know what to do with their lives, thus the mayhem began with hurting each other in accordance with each other's interest. During this time, Hwanwoong invented the Nokdo Gate by encouraging his people to create a language, and had the Cheonbu-kyung and Samil Shin-go be interpreted and have his people to keep the written tranlation. In addition, he supervised and taught his people 360 sectors of the human activities such as farming, life, disease, punishment, and good and evil.
During the Gojoseon era in Dangun, the teachings of Hwanguk Ohun, which had been passed down from the Hwanin era, continued into the Baedal era and the Gojoseon era. Dangun, in particular, lectured on Cheonbu-kyung and Samil reports, taught young people how to read books, archery, horse riding, etiquette, music, and kisu-ryeon, and called them "gukjarang." They tried to control their bodies and minds to achieve a "Uia Ilche." This highland line has maintained its history for more than 2,000 years. Fortunately, the spirit of Oh Sang, Yook Ye, and Hwanguk Oh Hoon, who taught Gukjorang, continued through Buyeo until the Three Kingdoms Period. In Goguryeo, they were called Jo Ui-seon, and in Silla they were called Hwarangs, and in Goryeo they were called Gukjorang. Unfortunately, this teaching was stopped by the fall of Goryeo. In the dynamic course of history, the power that saved our people at every moment of crisis without ceasing was the "Hong-ik Ingan Spirit", ‘the greatest service for the benefit of humanity’, and the "Ho-guk Spirit","I serve to protect my own country". HongIk-ingan is not to leave out anyone and help eachother to have every single man to feel that they are at home. This spirit, in harmony with the balance of mind and body, is the source of a healthy environment that keeps you on the edge of your body and is able to function informally. The fundamental background of this beneficial activity is ultimately dependent on the human brain. Therefore, it will be necessary to accurately understand human health and ability and to take forward training.
