‘경청’에 대한 상담학적 고찰 (A Study on ‘Listening’ in Counseling)

초록

본 연구는 상담 과정에서 상담자의 경청에 대한 부주의로 인해 적지 않은 문제가 발생될 수 있는 상황을 고려하여 경청에 대해 상담학적인 차원에서 집중적으로 고찰한다. 이는 상담자의 경청 태도에 대한 현실적인 진단뿐만이 아니라 상담자에게 경청의 중요성을 고취시켜 문제를 예방하고, 동시에 경청의 필요성을 강조함으로써 보다 효과적인 상담을 할 수 있도록, 특히 사목 상담자에게 경청의 당위성과 그 방향성을 제시해 보기 위함이다.
전체적인 구조를 보면 먼저 ‘들어가는 말’에서는 상담학 차원에 있어서 경청과 관련된 연구들이 시도되고 있지만, 많은 경우 부분적으로 고찰되어 다뤄지고 있는 현실을 감안하여 전문적인 차원에서의 경청에 대한 연구의 필요성을 제기한다. 제2장에서는 상담 과정에 있어서 상담자의 진지한 경청을 방해하는 주요 요인을 다섯 가지 차원으로 구분하여 분석해 본다. 제3장에서는 상담 기법으로 매우 효과적인 경청의 자세를 네 가지 측면으로 구분하여 접근해 보고, 특별히 제4장에서는 앞서 살펴본 제3장의 상담자의 효과적인 네 가지 경청의 자세를 예수님의 공생활 여정(복음서에서 한 가지 사례씩)에서 찾아보고 이와 연계하여 분석해 본다. 이어 제5장에서는 사목 상담자에게 있어서의 경청의 당위성과 더불어 사목 상담자가 취해야 할 바람직한 경청의 방향성을 제시해 본다. 그리고 마지막으로 ‘나가는 말’에서는 사목 상담 차원에서 본고의 주요 내용을 종합하는 것으로 마무리 한다.
결론적으로 말해서 상담학적인 차원에서 볼 때 경청은 상담자에게 상담 문제를 보다 효과적으로 해결할 수 있도록 도와주는 매우 중요한 상담 기법이라 할 수 있다. 나아가 사람의 마음을 움직이게 하는 중요한 태도는 말하기가 아니라 듣기라는 견해에서 볼 때, 평소 말하는 이에 대한 진지한 경청은 상담자를 비롯하여 모두에게 상담 문제의 예방과 해결 그리고 인간관계의 개선과 향상을 가져다주는, 누구나가 갖고 있는 삶의 놀라운 자원이라 할 수 있다. 사실 상담자만이 아니라 우리 모두에게는, 설령 문제를 해결해 줄 수 있는 능력은 없다 하더라도 문제로 인한 그 고민을 들어줄 수 있는 능력은 있다.

영어초록

This research studies the ‘ability to listen’ in an indepth manner in counseling sessions. It focuses on situations where by due to negligence of the counselor to ‘listen’ leads to ineffective counseling. It also provides a realistic diagnosis regarding the listening ability of the counselor. Moreover, this research seeks to prevent problems by increasing the importance of the counselors to listen. At the same time, it emphasizes the need for listening to enable even more effective counseling. In particular, the purpose of this research is to present the justification and the direction for listening for the pastors who are counselors so that they can counsel effectively.
As seen in the introduction, when the overall structure is examined, there are many insights that are related to ‘listening’ that are being researched in the art of counseling. Given the reality today, since this topic is dealt with under various categories, research on ‘listening’ from the professional level is required. Chapter 2 analyzes the key elements that obstruct counselors’ effective listening during the counseling process by classifying them under five aspects or levels. Chapter 3 approaches the classification of the effective ‘listening’ attitude under four angles or aspects when evaluating the method of counseling. Chapter 4 searches for the effective four listening attitudes of the counselors, as examined in Chapter 3 from the point of view of Jesus Christ’s pubic minsistry. (one case each from the New Testament), and by conducting an analysis by linking the both topics. Chapter 5 presents the direction for the ideal listening that the pastors, who serve as counselors, requires, with emphasis on the need to understand the necessity of ‘listening’. In the ‘conclusion’, in pertaining to counseling, the key contents of this chapter are summarized.
In conclusion, listening is a very important dimension of the counseling method that enables counselors to effectively resolve issues. Listening, not talking is the way to move others. Likewise, it is amazing how ‘listening’ is a great help(resource), not only for the counselors, but for the recipients as well, especially when it comes to preventing and resolving issues, and to improving interpersonal relations. This is a resource that everyone has. Even when the counselors and others may not have the ability to solve problems, they have the ability to listen.
