삶의 역사성과 추체험 - 딜타이의 의미 이론과 해석학적 재구성 방법론- (Historicity of Life and the Nacherleben - The Theory of Meaning and the Methodology of Hermeneutical Reconstruction in Wilhelm Dilthey's Geisteswissenschaften -)

초록

근대 해석학을 정립하는 데 결정적인 기여를 한 딜타이는 개인과 사회의 상징
적 상호작용과 의미의 연관관계에 대한 이해에 토대를 두고, 의미 해석의 인식론
과 논리학, 방법론적 구상을 발전시키고자 했다. 그러나 현대 사회학은 딜타이의
해석학이 감정이입과 심리적 동일시라는 낭만적 관념에 머무르고 있다는 일면적
해석에 머물러 있었기 때문에, 그의 이론이 사회학적 의미이론과 해석방법론에 대
해 갖는 풍부한 함의를 발견하고 현재화시킬 수 없었다. 딜타이에 대한 재해석이
라는 방식을 통해 이 연구는 사회학 이론과 방법론에 기여하는 몇 가지 함의를 이
끌어냈다. 첫째, 행위자들의 삶은 곧 타인들과 사회적 상호작용을 체험해가는 과
정이며, 행위자들이 이러한 체험들 간에 모종의 연관관계를 부여하는 해석적 실천
을 통해서 ‘의미’가 생성된다. 둘째, 행위자의 의미세계는 삶의 생애사적 전개 속
에서 일어났던 각각의 체험들을 하나의 전체적 역사로 엮어냄을 통해 형성되며,
그러한 개인들의 역사쓰기는 보다 넓은 사회적 공동체의 역사 속에서 객관화된 사
회적 의미구조를 매개로 한다. 셋째, 그러한 행위자들의 의미구성과 의미체계에
대한 학문적 해석은 어떤 정태적 심리상태에 대한 감정이입과 동일시가 아니라,
행위자들의 삶의 역사적 전개와 그로부터 생성된 의미연관의 체계를 역진적으로
재구성하는 추체험의 방법을 통해 이뤄져야 한다. 이상과 같이 딜타이의 통찰은 사회학적 행위이론과 의미이론, 해석 방법론을 더욱 체계적이고 반성적으로 재구
성하는 데 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

영어초록

Wilhelm Dilthey, who made a critical contribution to the establishment
of modern hermeneutics, tried to develop epistemological, logical, and
methodological ideas for interpreting the meaning on the ground of the
ontological understanding of meaningfully mediated symbolic interactions.
Although his Geisteswissenschaften made a deep influence upon the
sociological theory and methodology of some classical sociologists like Weber
and Simmel, the contemporary sociology did not go beyond a superficial and
one-sided understanding that Dilthey's hermeneutical methodology depends
upon romanticist conceptions of empathy, sympathy, or psychological
identification with others. The present article, however, draws some significant
insights that may contribute to the sociological theory and interpretive
methodology by reintrepreting Dilthey's Geisteswissenschaften and
hermeneutics. Firstly, the life of human actors is nothing but a continuous
process of experiencing the social interaction and interrelatedness with others, and the 'meaning' emerges through the interpretive practices of weaving a system of connection from the individual experiences. Secondly, the life and the meaning is historical in its nature, because the world of meaning is constructed by interlinking individual past experiences to constitute a unitary narrative of the whole life-history. Thirdly, for the hermeneutical explication of the process of meaning-making and the system of meanings, one cannot depend upon empathy and sympathy, but should make an inversive operation of Nacherleben the methodological core of which resides in reconstructing the action environment of actors, the proceedings of their life-history, and the system of meanings that emerge out of the very lived experiences of life itself.
