초록

This paper aimed to characters of mountain lord and periodical allegorical meaning in the new materials of the biography of mountain lord by Dongmyeong Hwang joong-yoon. In the biography of mountain lord Sangun is the posthumous name and its original name is Ban piao. Ban piao’s ancestors were warriors from the Chu state, and Ban piao became king using his power. After his coronation, he was portrayed as a tyrant who used excessive force. In the biography of mountain lord, Ban piao was identified with the emperor of Qin dynasty and was finally evaluated as a fate to be defeated.
The author uses historical figures for characterization. First, the main character was given the name of Ban piao, a positive historical character. Ban piao’s two sons, Bangu and Ban cho, are representative of the pen and the sword, respectively, and Ban piao is a person who supported the Emperor Guangwu of Han who ruled the country with the pen and the sword. In this way, the author used various knowledge and information related to Ban piao to express the utility of the sword.
Next, Ban Piao’s life is similar to Xiang ji. The writer sees Xiang Ji as a villainous hero in an age of confusion. his confirms to some extent the use of force by Ban Piao before the accession to the throne. However, after his accession to the throne, the abuse of force by Ban piao ended in his own death. This is a negative perception of force. In other words, it is the power to rule in a chaotic age, and the pen to rule in a peaceful age.
This study considered that the interest in the sword in the biography of mountain lord was deeply related to the 17th century. Therefore, in order to estimate the time when the biography of mountain lord was created, I paid attention to the age and the corresponding year of the Ban piao specified in the biography of mountain lord.
The year when the Ban piao died, it was in 1638 if it was found in the time when the writer survived. In 1638, I looked at the situation the domestic and international in 1638. As a result, it was found that the news that “Hong Taiji of the Qing dynasty died in Joseon society this year. The death of the mountain lord can be placed in an analogy with the death of Hong Taiji (the fall of Qing), so the author saw that he created the biography of mountain lord in the hope of a change in the relationship between the Joseon and the Qing dynasty.
